Neighbor came by yesterday and ask if I could help him look up a bayonet on line. He picked it up from his brother for just change. I traced it to a 1940 Mauser. The blade is in perfect condition. The wood handle shows wear as it is always out of a scabbard which is made of metal with some leather. I didn't get to take a picture of it. Anyone have a thought as to it's value.

Condition, condition, condition. Look them up on eBay and see what they go for.

Rarity of style and maker, followed by condition. Some were made by millions,
others in 10s of thousands or less.

Never cared much about bayonets, so have looked a bit at them but after learning a
bit, decided it was a complex collector field and dropped out.

eBay and online sites, plus gun shows to estimate value. Ranges are $20 to $300 and more.

Don't care much for bayonets either even after 23 years in the military. Can't see taking a knife to a gun fight. In 23 years, I never saw a bayonet except for once when we did a parade with fixed bayonets in the 25th Infantry Division. They gave the command, "Fix Bayonets" to the entire division and three people were injured.

I rest my case./beagle
