Looks like the midsection of the US will be getting a significant amount of snow tonight and tomorrow.
Batten down the hatches and get ready for a blow!

Getting ready here in central Illinois. Calling for 2 to 4 inches this afternoon with another 5 to 7 tomorrow. Have to stop on the way home and get a few gallons of gas for the snow blower. For you that live way down south, that something like a lawnmower that....never mind.

I'm in the Houston area. I wish we were getting a lot of snow here. It's just so fun to watch the people who don't know how to drive on snow and ice *attempt* to do so. From a distance, of course. :)

It's rumored to have snowed here about 10 years ago. I was out of town at the time, so I have no direct knowledge of it though. Probably a "blanket" of snow a single snowflake thick which caused numerous wrecks. :)

It hasn't snowed here for at least a day or so. The sun was shining and the sky was blue this morning. It's really overcast now. We're supposed to get hit again either tonight, or tomorrow.

Sunny and in the 70's here today. Just finished smelting about 125# of roofing lead. It did snow here when my daughter was a toddler back in '76, I believe. We actually had 2-3 inches of snow on the ground here in Tampa. Stay warm.

OK...let's see.....last Tuesday got in excess of 2 feet. Then Thursday night got another 8 inches....now another foot coming on Monday......
Hey....it's New Hampshire .....and it's winter.....that's what happens.
Don't like it?
Head for Florida and join all the other blue hairs.
Personally I take advantage of Winter.....I cast, load, snowshoe and hike.....

We've had a few inches of snow here the last couple of days, got to shovel off the driveway both days. If I don't it turns to ice as it is shaded by the house. At least we can use the moisture around here.

Yep, it's been confirmed . . . It is definitely climate change!

It was summer and then it was fall, definite climate change there.
It was fall and then it was winter, definitely more climate change going on. Scientists (those paid by the gubment) agree, the climate is not like it was just this last summer.
It is Winter now and I'm betting on even more climate change and it will become spring time.

Climate just never seems to stop changing. I'll bet that's why yesterday another executive order was signed mandating all gubment funded construction near coastlines will be built with rising sea levels in mind.

D*mned climate change, I sure wish we could go back to just having four seasons. [smilie=b:

Nope, not snowing here. Al Gore has less influence in this part of the world.

Screw the rising sea levels supposedly caused by climate change. Build them higher because sea levels rise when there is a storm surge caused by hurricanes.

I wish but we are in the eighth month of an El Nino so I didn't expect much this winter here in the PacNW. The El Nino is finally starting to break down on the equator off Peru so I expect to see lots of snow in our mountains (and maybe in my neighborhood around Hood Canal) in the next couple weeks. If the weatherman is right, late this week is when our winter finally gets rolling.

Have some snow on the ground from the storms this week...maybe 4-5" left depending on where you measure and how much it drifted.

they are calling for a winter storm "event" this afternoon into tomorrow morning. Predictions vary wildly...one says a coating of snow with a possibility of changing to freezing rain or just rain. Other predictions say 4-6" of snow with ice and freezing rain.

Bottom line...they are just guessing.

if the roads are a mess tomorrow, I'll just take a vacation day and stay home...don't like Mondays, anyway.

I hear it snowed in Massachusetts , some seem to believe that heavy snow in Mass in January is an earth shaking event.
In Mass the snow fall varied by county from less than 5" to 34" yet they report it as if the entire state was buried under three feet of snow.

We've heard alot about Hurricane Sandy but it was a category 3 while New England was hit by a Hurricane estimated as a category 4 or 5 in the 17th century long before any supposed AGW could have been a factor.
One 17th century Hurricane carved permanent new inlets in the coastline.

I noticed that they keep talking of warmer waters off the New England coast causing heavy snowfall but they show SST anomaly maps with the area in the red zone while daily Sea Surface Temperature maps for January show the area in dark blue indicating the temps are very near the freezing point of water.

As for where I live theres been very little snow, there seldom has been noticable snow here since the 1990's. The really big snow storms locally were 1985 (8" overnight) or earlier back to 1960 or so and some much earlier going back to the 1920's.
No sign of Global Warming affecting snow fall here in East Tennessee.
The Smokies do catch snow moving this way from states further east, so that may be one reason.

Still saying 5"-10" w/ it changing over to sleet/freezing rain and then back to snow. Truth be told I'd rather have all snow. The freezing rain makes it impossible to get anywhere and people try and drive on it. Ground has been snow covered most of the time. Every time it all melts we get more. There is enough down to make walking the dog a few miles a day a pain. Literally a pain as the shifting snow is hell on my hips and ankles. Getting old sucks :(

Got some good shooting in before the wind started...we just started getting snow @ 2 pm & they are calling for +10" then a freezing rain / sleet mix by morning!!! Woopee! Yeah Right! 95% of the snow we get is wet and heavy. The light fluffy snow is the stuff of dreams. Work expects me to wake up early so I can leave early to get to my first call on time. They forget that I need people to clear their driveways and the roads need to be clear. It's a complete joke. There might be five days a winter where we have to start late. And one or two where they shut it all down. They get mad when I tell them I'm not dying to or from work. Money is more important to the owner then the safety of his employees. Can you tell I'm getting angry about the potential call I will make to management tomorrow morning

No snow here, of course, but the wind is definitely picking up. I heard a loud crash a couple of minutes ago and when I went out to investigate, my metal mesh top patio table had been knocked over and the (closed) umbrella had gone through the bedroom window. Yikes! I tie everything down before winter hits. Gusts to 75mph have been recorded with steady winds over 50mph during height of a storm.

But just a dusting again, I can still see the lawn!

i'm in bflo, ny . . . been fallin' all day and will continue right on to sundown monday night.

you'd think with all the winter wonderland going on that i'd get a few boolits squeezed thru the Star or maybe tidy up my filthy bench or something . . . anything . . . at least a little bit productive.

nope.

instead i enjoyed an extra three fingers of Glenfiddich.

now i'm just staring out my window wondering if i'm so smart why ain't i anyplace else?

i got four more months of winter to sweep and to load . . . might as well throw another log on the fire while i get myself a refill.
