Was just reviewing the list of the 50 most violent cities in the world.http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/50-most-violent-cities-in-the-world/ss-AA8LUZK

The US has 4 cities on the list #40 Baltimore 34/100,000, #28 New Orleans 39/100,000, #22 Detroit 45/100,000 and #19 St Louis 50/100,000 . Barely made the top 20. Despite what the anti gun crowd would have us believe.

The countries that dominate the list are Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, Honduras, Columbia. It should be noted that all of these countries have more restrictive gun laws than the US.

It seems there is more crime in areas that are occupied by a high percentage of hyphenated citizens.

The closest town to me is Odessa, Texas. #69 if I remember right. The danger here is the drivers from other states who came to work the oil fields. A fatality almost every day. I live in the county south of there and I drive with my head on a swivel.

A lot of my wife's ancestors are buried in Woodland Cemetery in Newark, N.J. which has been pretty much desecrated by the surrounding population over a period of years In order to go in and research the headstones, the folks in charge of the cemetery records have what is called Safe Day. It's one day a year where they have arranged for the police to be in the cemetery to keep people from getting murdered while they are doing their research. We went last June and they had 4 or 5 policemen in different spots in and around the place. Didn't have my carry gun on that trip as they have a habit up there of pulling cars over with Texas plates.

Where some of them are misleading is the lager metro areas made up of multiple cities, example, L.A. or D.C. You don't get a report or stats for the "city", you get lots of reports on smaller cities which make up the big city and skew the numbers and don't show the reality. While there may be lots of crime overall in an area like Washington D.C., on paper it looks better than it is because the numbers are spread out between all the connected urban cities and sprawl. Look at Southern California, it is essentially one continuous city from San Fernando Valley down to the US/Mexico border or the Dallas/Ft Worth area.

In my opinion, most cities are safe overall. You have small pockets within the city where crime is rampant and it impacts the overall stats for the rest of the good citizens. Point being, stay out of the bad areas and you'll be safer as well as blissfully ignorant to the crime in other areas.

Me too - we must be neighbors!
Did I mention in addition to being 20 minutes from #1 - Camden,NJ. I drew the short straw for the ghetto triple crown........my wife is a nurse at a hospital in #2 - Chester, PA. where last year a patient was shot while recuperating in her room. The bullet that hit her was randomly fired into the air and went threw the hospital room window. Nice place to work..
Fortunately I'm about 40 minutes from #8 - Atlantic City, NJ and #9 Wilmington,DE is 30 miles away!!

BTW, Wilmington is making a big push in 2015 to move up to the top 5!!!

I can't wait till the wife retires in a couple years so we can change zip codes.

People ask why I cast & reload?

And yes, those things DO come back down, and they aren't "fluttering" when they do...

The city is already on its way to out do last year... There has been 12 shootings within the city limits of Wilmington since the first of the year, with 6 of the shootings being fatal... Outside the city limits there has only been 1 shooting in the whole state during the same time.... Says something about the "HOOD"

I must live on the good side of town. There's 14 blocks of gangbanger territory that helps keep our numbers up. Look at the breakdown by geographic area and you'll see what I mean.

I'm a little suspicious of crime stats.
Most of them are gathered from the city, or state themselves.
Here where we depend on tourism, it would not be in our best interest to have a high crime rating.
Many, many crimes against tourist here are just dropped when they find out they must come back for the trial.
We've had many cases thrown out because the victim didn't show up for trial.
The state is trying to get an exemption, so the victim can be in court via computer feed.
It's not going to good because of constitutional issues.

Harter66

There's a cool thing about stats they can be manipulated to say whatever you want . Mineral County has 749 /100,000 incidents of violent crime . That looks pretty bad on the surface . Especially when it's sited as being 25% domestic violence and nearly 40% assult and battery ..........
That's just the raw numbers. Now let's fill in some blanks . Mineral County is about the same size as Maryland ,the state, we have 3500 people for a population density of 1.68. The year that was published we had 1 murder it was the 1st in 20 yr and in the 20 I've been here the only. We also had 2 stand offs with police also the only 1s that I know of . That leaves 13 cases . 4 bar fights,2 drunk couples that thought the front yard was a good place to through stuff at each other and the vet that fell asleep in the park and came up swinging and clipped a deputy.
you have to watch the numbers per /xxx they can make Mayberry look like hades.

Why do lists of bad cities do not agree? Does the creator of the list have an axe to grind or some hidden agenda? Lists are based on police provided data. Do you think the local chiefs can't warp data to make him and his department look better?

Interesting - not a single city in Arizona listed there. Wonder if "constitutional carry" is a contributing factor.

I'm scratching my head at Norristown, PA being on the list but Reading, PA isn't. I live outside of Reading and work in Norristown sometimes. Norristown has small pockets of bad areas. Reading, well I won't go into most areas of it at night. MS13 has a large presence and it's a central hub for the drug trade on the east coast. Since I live right outside of it I'm thinking the crimes aren being reported properly. I have no issues w/ walking around most of Philadelphia at night. All of Reading is a no go zone.

We are now at 17 shootings with 7 fatalities in the City of Wilmington.. "HOOD" has been busy.. Guess we are heading for a status that the "BOYS form THE HOOD" can gain street creds with.

Nebraska didn't even make the list. I suppose Council Bluffs, IA could count against us, that's where we dispose of the bodies from Omaha.

I noticed that most of the west is not on the list except for Calif. Maybe it just ain't that safe to go around causing trouble. It is also harder to be anonymous in a smaller population. Then you throw in all the legal gun carriers and it don't look so good for the criminals.

New Orleans,LA. I love the town ,love the food, the culture ,and the music..
There was a murder there every night for a while..I love the Quarter..
Spent a lot of time there years ago..I tell everyone visiting, never go into the Quarter alone at night..Safety is always in numbers..
About time for me to go back and eat at Ralph and Kacoos on Toulouse St.
That is a great restaurant .The Crayfish festival is fantastic...
