I was out target shooting at my house yesterday when a rodent(not of unusual size) decided to skip across the trees. These things have caused havoc around the place getting into stuff so I decided a little eradication was in order. I have taken pop shots at them before with this gun, but this was a first for me.

You can see where I actually hit the tree instead of the rodent, but when that dude flew backwards a few feet I knew I had got him(yes, it was a he). However, here is the intriguing thing I found. I went over to pick him up and saw a large bump between his shoulders. Yep, sure enough, the tree had slowed down the boolit enough to let it just barley be caught under the skin trying to exit. He did have some tuff hide I have to say, or my knife was dull....

ACWW powder coated lead. 4.2 grains of Bullseye. 18 yards. That there is pure luck....well.....for one of us. Just thought you all might get a kick out of it. I was tickled that I got him, then doubly tickled to recover the boolit!

You can recast that boolit and make it a 2 for 1 if you can connect again. :Fire:

Tree rats! I hate them. Good Shooting.

Maybe its time for you to ask Santa for a .22 conversion unit for Christmas?

no .22 conversion for me. Heck, I shoot the 45 for as much as you can buy the .22 lr around here for.

I knew they were tough to kill with my longbow. Seeing how they handle a .45 I can see why!

Another plus is you can eat the squirrel. They are good with some dumplings.

Nice shot!

Does that load lead at all? I only ask because it looks like the back driving band is missing the coating. I suppose that could be happening on impact.

LOL, think ya used enough gun?

That's some good shooting there. I wouldn't stand a chance of hitting a moving squirrel with a pistol like that.

Leading is minimal at best. I can't tell if it leads or just wash I think is what it is called. But I just started shooting the load so time will tell. I can say that it wipes out with a pass or two from a tight brush and rag.

The lead missing is from it hitting the tree before hitting the squirrel. Lol. Nothing is enough gun. Lol. Them things are tuff and pesky! You for sure have to wait till they are still.

I hate squirrels as they are destructive pests that give us real problems at our lake house.

I also have a strong dislike for these landscape vermin...got this one this afternoon with a 358429...he was in the woods, but I know where he liked to visit.

We don't have them this far north (yet) but when I used to hunt in southern Oklahoma, they were a PITA. Always thought about going back after season and shooting all I could but never did.

Used to bunt with an old fellow; friend employee of my dad's he used to always say "you shoot an armadillo, make sure you finish the job cause them is a vengeful critter" nice shooting newton, I have used my 1911 on a few groundhogs and a rabbit or two, with a very similar load to yours, just cause it was what I had on my hip; its always on my hip!

I was trying to hog hunt, but couldn't hear anything for him rustling around everywhere in the leaves...he finally got close enough. I left him where he lay...the hogs will find him tonight and there will be only a shell left by daylight.

Thanks guys. I assure you, while it looks like a good shot, I was off my mark by an inch or so. I just got lucky that the bark on the tree decided to throw the boolit toward the squirrel.

An armadillo was the first pest I shot after starting to cast boolits. I too was hog hunting and came across the dang noise maker. I was amazed and had no doubt in the efficiency of the cast boolit after that day.
