A friend gave me a bunch of bullets. I'm going to use most for lead but there are a few hundred round nose plain based 93 gr bullets sized .311 I was thinking they might make decent plinker bullet over some Red Dot but can't find any data for bullets that light.

Anyone recommend a load or should I just make em into something else.

Thanks!

I shot some 98 grain RCBS swc's over 5 grains of Bullseye and they shot well, under 1" at 50 yds in a Savage 30-30. I would try the same charge of Red Dot.

I have shot 77 gr RN cast bullets in a 30-30 using 5 gr of Red Dot. Made a fine plinking load in the back yard sounds much like a 22 LR going off and has more punch.

I’ve had pretty good luck with 90-grain Hornady XTP pistol bullets over reloader 15 in the 30-30. It left a lot of powder residue, but accuracy was good. I had made them up to get around some stupid groundhog hunting laws in NJ. They worked quite well on those little critters. I worked those loads up without the benefit of book published recipes or pressure traceable data, so I’m not going to publish my charge weights. Around 2600fps I started getting sticky extraction, so I backed off a little from there.

The Lyman cast bullet handbook lists a 115-grain boolit over 7-10 grains of Red Dot doing 1400-1747fps. That should give you something for ballpark comparison.

3.1 grains of Bullseye gives me 1000-1100 fps with boolits in the 80-90 grain weights in the 30-30. Red Dot should be about the same. Regards, Woody

I have this mold and it is a fun boolit in any .30. My standard is 8gr Unique and work from there if needed.
