128291My wife's ankle biters had some puppies. Dad is a YorkiePoo and mom a yorkie. Were expecting this one to be around 10-12 pounds. Mom and dad are smart and dad LOVES to go "hunting" with me. I was thinking of keeping this lil booger and make him "mine" so to speak. I'm hoping he takes to the woods like his father but be able to be trained a little. Now just need a name.

I was thinking something gun related. It's a boy so Kimber is out. Colt? Cooper?

Brutus, Ruger, Remington are also out due to family pets with that name already.

Josephus.

Dogs sometimes like both a name and a nickname.

If you call him Josephus when he does something wrong and call him Joey when showing him affection and when he does something right then he'll associate earning approval with affection. Whenever you call him Joey he'll feel pleasure and he'll moderate his behavior to get that feeling of pleasure as often as possible.

Ive always been a bigger dog/lab guy. So I hope this one works out well. My lab, Scout, is about 15-16 years old and while still energetic at times, is showing her age. Plus she's always been deathly afraid of guns and loud noises. She was a pound rescue. She loved the water though. Camping, boating, fishing, hiking. She was awesome. Now she spends most of her time on her mat resting. She always greets me at the door. Tail wagging. I'm dreading the day......

Our Golden Retreiver mix was "Fortune" that got corrupted to "Mis Fortune" that has evolved to "Marlene" for behavior. Also answers to "D*** Dog" and "Leave that cat alone."

Newfoundland/Great Pyrenees that I have now is 11 and has outlived his left expectancy, had a Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd die of lymphoma last year. My brother in law works as a heavy duty mechanic for a large oilfield service company. Many years ago the guys in the shop had adopted a stray dog, called it "Dog". It finally died and after a month or so another friendly stray showed up and worked its way into the role of shop dog.
They were debating a proper name for the dog when my brother in law suggested Minue...
They asked what the heck and why?
My brother in law replied "because it is Minue dog..."

On another note, some 45 years ago when I first went to meet the current wife's family every thing went well. After about 2 hours the brother in law took my future wife aside and says "you can't marry him, he is crazy.." My wife asked "what do you mean, crazy?" The brother in law replied " He must be, he wants to marry you..."

One of mine is a 10-year old+ lab mix female who was lucky to survive puppyhood. She went under the freezer in the laundry room and got cut down her right leg and lost her outer toe in the fan. Also got a big cut between the eyes that scarred over nicely. Since she had only three toes, I named her "Three Toes". It kinda got shortened to "T.T." I simply call her "T", and she likes that. She's a good dog.

Jack

My best male ..... and I have had a quite a few dogs ........... stock dogs ....... was named Jack after another stock dog from before my time .... on our ranch ....... back when my father was a kid!

The old Jack NEVER gave up ......... mine did not either ....... the tougher a mean cow got ....... the more Jack liked it. He had a natural stub tail and it would shake like a rattle snake buzzin' when a full grown cow thought she could give Jack "the business"! ........ and his growl would raise in pitch until you thought a jet was landing right there in the pasture. The cow was in full retreat and "yodeling" ........ by that time! LOL!

Jack lost ground when he could not hear a cow sneaking up on him ........ broke my heart to have to rescue him ..... I knew his days were getting numbered .......

And it tore me apart to have to have him put to sleep ...... he made fourteen years ....... and made my life during that time!

Jack knew when he was really in my good graces ........ he's put his head against my knees and just about push me off my feet and GRUNT ........ and I'd call him Jack Jackson!

Grunt, push and wag that little natural stub tail .......... one fine Australian Shepard cross indeed! One thing put him off though ........... Bears! He figured he was NO bear dog!

My brother and family named their second born Jackson ....... and my days of naming another male dog with the name "Jack" or "Jackson" on this spread came to a screeching halt!

I have two female cattle dogs now ........ and they are good as gold as well. More obedient and less hard headed!

Sorry for the wait guys. My wife and I had discussed giving his sister to a coworker of her fathers and the next thing I knew, he wasn't home when I came home......

So we've still got his sister. She's just as energetic and I'm surprised she can even walk. My daughter totes her around everywhere. She has also taken a liking to me and my gun room. My daughter named her "Sarah Peaches" so I call her peaches for short.

She he doesn't mind riding shotgun on the ATV's and a brother of hers from another litter (Hoss) will follow us for miles. She seems to be smart and will track rabbit runs in the back briar patches. She saw her first rabbit a week or so ago and just barked while backing up towards me. LOL
