Anyone have any experience with this or the original 358477 diameter mould? I got this to use in 38 spec and 357 mag. It is a plain base so not max loads I don't think for the mag loads.

I am going to size to 0.358" for right now. I am going to get a 0.359" sizer just because. They cast a little over 0.360 so I want the 359 sizer to just try.

I also noticed that I may have to lap my seater die and my roll crimp die a little as a few that I loaded seemed to be a little thick and scraped on the die when seating. I don't want them to swage down when seating the bullets.

I loaded a bunch over some 4.5 and 5.0 of Unique in 357 brass to see how it does. This seems to be recommended loads I see a lot. So we will see.

So anyone else??????

Got the same mold about a week ago but have not had a chance to cast with it yet. I just got my .358 sizer the other day and i am waiting on some Starline 357 Mag brass to come in. Will be using 2400 and W296 for powder so will see how it goes. I have the HP version of that mold so i can't wait to start casting with it.

The Lyman 358477 is outstanding. I bet your NOE will be as well. I like the 358477 sized .358 in a 357 case over Red Dot 5.0 gr or Blue Dot 8.5 gr or 2400 11.0 gr.

Planning to get one of these really soon. Seems like it should be a great mold for 38/357.

I have both the plain-base and the GC versions- they are by far my favorite molds for .357/.38 special. I use them with 231 in .38, 2400, unique, H110 in .357 revolver and H-110 in a .357 rifle.

No experience with this version, but I have used the Lyman 358477 in the early form at 150 gr a lot and it
is a wonderful design. It is essentially identical to the RCBS 38-150-SWC, which was previously sold as
38-150-K. I have two 4 cav Lyman molds, a couple of two cavs and one of the RCBS versions. You may
get the idea that I like it. :bigsmyl2:

Top design, you will find it accurate and a real asset.

I have a 5 cavity NOE 360477 that I have owned about 1 1/2 years and have cast and shot hundreds(if not a few thousands) of bullets made from it and love it. I size at .358.
It is my standard, go to bullet for .38 Special and .357 Magnum. I find my other .38/.357 moulds sit on the shelf. I do cast the Ideal #358429 for the .357 Magnum still.
I can highly recommend this mould!

I have the Lyman 358477 in a 4 cavity mold. It shoots well with 3.5 grains of Bullseye loaded in a 38 special case. I prefer the NOE 360-150-SWC which is a similar design but has a smaller lube groove and more driving band surface area. If shoots superbly.

I have two versions of the 477 and they both shoot quite well.
I'm using 4 grs of 231 as a target load with them.
I see no reason why you can't push the boolit pretty hard if you want to, I have used 7 grs of herco behind some and they flew straight enough.
the design is strong enough to take being pushed without issue, it carries enough lube, the nose is stout, the drive bands are strong enough for sure.

Really like the 358477 and have used it in light 38 Special loads to full mag loads in the 357 Mag. Shoots good.

I have the 4 cavity brass NOE version. I load that boolit in .38 brass over 4gr of Bullseye for 830fps from my 6" K-38

I also load it in .357 brass over 5gr of Redot for 925fps from a 4" Taurus Tracker.

Both loads shoot well. Very classy looking SWC IMHO.

358477 is my favorite 38 Special bullet and you can get them up to 1000 fps if you need the speed

I shot some today with 4.5 and 5.0 of Unique. It really liked the 5.0 load in 357 brass. I am going to go up to 5.5 just to see. The 5.0 was a really soft shooter. I could shoot that all day long.

Just picked up a older Lyman...it's not been used in awhile and I nursing it back to proper working status. Important thing with my bullet scrap its doing .360-.3605. That's a solid in my book.

It's a good bullet and does fine at double duty for the 38 special and 357 magnum territory. I load it over a max dose of 2400 in 357 magnum cases lubed with Lotak Hard from the Bullshop. Accurate, straight shooting, and turns rabbits inside out.
