Bought this new at Cabelas came out of the box In this position, is it normal? I would say no, but new to casting and this is the first thermometer

Take 'er back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BAAAAAAD. Unless your ambient temp is 660°F!!!!!!

Should have never got by their QC inspection (if the even have any).

What model teltru did you buy, I would like one that fits in the metal clip that came with the Lyman.

Made in USA. Even if it did not work, and it do, I would rather have it than the Lyman. It has a metal clip and is compatible with the Lyman clip.

Yea that one needs to go back to china. If you look at my earlier post from about a year ago I asked for info on an American made thermometer and there are some links to some good ones. I am sorry I can not leave you a link.

The thermometer turns backwards when cold, warm it up a little and see what happens

stick it into some boiling water, should read approx. 212 degrees depending on your elavation.
