We had to leave in a hurry in the middle of December to make it back to Michigan in time for a funeral, instead of paying for another set of plane tickets we extended our trip....our normal 1 1/2 week trip to spend the holidays with our family got stretched into 3 1/2 weeks. I basically ran out of stuff to do by the end of the trip and was getting bored.

So back home in Wyoming with fresh snow on the ground and a small game tag in my pocket I grabbed a couple of my 22lr's and headed out this morning for one of my favorite spots to chase bunnies. It seems to be an up year for rabbits around here and I kicked out at least 20 rabbits before I headed home. Most of the rabbits I had shots at were between 30 and 90 yards, I started out with my pump action Remington with iron sights and wasn't having any luck hitting anything. So I brought out my Magtech bolt action with a 3-9x scope on it....the rabbits seemed to know they couldn't sit still anymore at 75 yards. I did manage to get these two nice cottontails about 5 seconds apart.

I might try to get back out tomorrow morning and see if I can get a couple more for the crockpot.

Seems like we had a bumper crop of rabbits earlier this year and now they've all dissappered. We had a few in the yard that were almost pets it seems. One had a favorite patch of grass in my lawn and he'd be there by my truck every morning when I went in to work, haven't seen him for a while now.

Sure does look cold there.

I was covered in rabbits all summer. My plan was to put my 32 mag to work as soon as deer season was over. Well it's over, can't find no rabbits but I'm seeing lots of deer!!

Sorry to hear about the funeral.

I need to butcher some of our tame rabbits when it warms up. Come on up and save your ammo. I'll give you a couple.:kidding:
We had alotta rabbits all summer. Now that winter hit, we have ALOTTA rabbits in our yard. We can look out any time of the day and see at least 10 right here close to the house. Part of the problem is me. I hats to shoot things close to the house. If something happens and we need meat, it dont get any handyer.

It really drove the son in law nuts a couple days ago. Looking out the window we could see 10-12 rabbits and 10 chukars within 100yds of the kitchen window. It really was bad when the rabbits came within a couple feet of the front door. It was tempting, and we both had tags, but I wouldnt let him shoot anything. He just sat there and watched.

Thanks guys, my wife's grandma was 91 years old....full blood Italian and always requested I bring her three or four rabbits so she could make rabbit and polenta....every time I did I never got any of it.

We have 3 or 4 that hang around our yard at night...I know because my boxer has her face smashed against the windows watching their every move. Snowing and blowing today probably not going out unless it clears up this afternoon. Yesterdays rabbits are going into the crockpot in a few minutes.

you have a boxer? Well who would have thought. They're great dogs with kids. They're so strong and tough little kids can't hurt them.

She is small for a boxer but fast and surprisingly powerful....and very protective of my wife, son, and most young kids. My brother and his family were over, my brother picked up his 3 year old son who started to throw and temper tantrum and cry......Eva was all business and on my brother very quickly ready to put in some work.

We have found that a walk isn't enough for her so we run her with our four wheeler. She tops out at about 32mph and can hold 20-25 mph for over a mile.

Protective to a fault: that my friend is a good dog.

My girl was like that back when she was young. I distinctly remember the day she ran across my yard and jumped through the open drivers window of my dodge caravan and landed in the passenger seat. Clean leap... nothing but net.

She 10 1/2 now and content to sleep away most day.

Your son is beautiful Doug, must get that from your wife.

Its amazing how protective some dogs are.
I had an Aussie Shepard once that was that way. He didnt really like the kids, but if somebody else got to close to them, he knew his job no question about it.

My house has been without a dog for too long, will remedy that at the earliest opportunity.

I have a 3 year old Belgian and a 4 year old son. They are the best of buds and you can't separate the two. The dog doesn't allow any strangers to get within any distance of the boy or the wife. When we walk him and someone is on the same sidewalk he makes sure to put himself between them. No ones allowed to pick up my son and play with him unless I am present and reassure the dog that it's ok. Even then he fusses about it.
Between him and the wife with my Model 66 I don't worry to much when I'm not around.
