Hey JonB, what finish is on your pistol?

Bead blasted stainless.
high polish on the wear area of the cylinder.
polished Nickel plate on Hammer, trigger.

I got this firearm from a close friend's brother, who told the story that he bought it at a police auction in FL. He claimed it was confiscated from a drug dealer...now did the drug dealer have the custom work done? or stolen? The serial # is intact, so if it was stolen, you'd think the police would locate the original owner before they auctioned it. Now I take the story with a grain of salt, my friend's brother is a bit of a blow hard...while He surely seems trustworthy in all the dealings I've had with him in the decade that I've known him, I feel he likes to tell a tall tail, now and again :)

What I like most on this gun is, it was a 8.375 barreled gun, but the custom work that had been done, includes the large port and expansion chamber machined into the barrel itself.

It also came with a Pentax scope and custom mount. The first thing I did was remove that ...and sold the scope.

Great "story", I feel it shoots well or you would not sill have it.

Yes, it does shoot very well ...and it may have the best feeling trigger on any revolver I have ever shot.
BUT, cleaning that bead blast finish after shooting a bunch of castboolits isn't nearly as fun as cleaning a nickel plated gun :)

I bet, cleaning all the pits would not be fun job.

Jon,

What was the load you were shooting in the pic?

JonB_in_Glencoe

The load was with the NOE 429421 RG2 "fat keith" Group Buy, This mold drops boolits at .434 and it was from the first or second GB from NOE for this design, I believe NOE now calls this 434421.
I use 15.7gr of 2400 to push them.

Do you know what your velocity is?

I've never chrono'd them.
I have a love/hate relationship with my chrono.
mostly hate, as it rarely functions properly. [smilie=b:

Your response begs the question "why do you have it?" if it rarely works.

If you ever have that bullpup out of the stock, I'd be very interested in how they did the trigger linkage. (pictures)
Or if you would like to trade for an as built 03, or other 03 let me know what you have in mind.

Just dug out a gun I got in a estate sale for $10 or $50. It is a 1918 Springfield 30-06 with a 1928 Springfield barrel in a bull-pup stock. The barrel is 22" long and the gun is 32' long. I had some Lyman 311284s and some 311291s cast and sized and thought.. Why not? I did a couple proof test fires with manufacture loads, no problems. I loaded up about fifty rounds with 11 grains of Unique and am ready, need to find a scope and get into the new indoor range here. This baby will need care this year...

Heck of a deal you got even at $50 :p

- I don't think it's an original marine corps bullpup
but they were hot as civilian conversions for a while in the 50's.
I like the looks of yours better.

You could loan it to another member to see if they have the same problem...i would be very happy to offer my evaluation services of your chrono...

You are very very close we figured between 400 and 425lbs. Good eye! Maybe you should buy a lottery ticket.

After cleaning, wipe revolver with syn 2-stroke oil. I ever push a lightly oiled patch through the barrel followed by a dry patch. Cleaning is much easier afterwards.
