I was just thinking, mostly because I have a pretty nasty cold right now, do you all think there's any reason NOT to cast if you're sick? With your nasal/respiratory plumbing all drippy and irritated do you think you might be asking for trouble, or do you are think as long as you take the normal basic precautions it's no different than casting when you're healthy? Just wondering what you all think.

Unless you're falling down sick, or hanging your dripping nose over the lead pot, I can't see where it makes a difference. I've had some awful colds and still made plenty of boolits, with no probs.

Generally I won't. its hard to focus when I feel like cr*p. Easier to make mistakes.

I used to get migranes bad and if I could Id cast. the heat from the lead pot relieved the headaches alot better than any meds. With a cold the heat may help with the clogged sinuses.

I think that since your dealing with molten lead some concerns to safety must be considered. I suggest waiting until your 100% and less likely to burn yourself and or others.

This may well be a sign your addiction has taken over!!!! You've reached a point where you need help. Not with breaking the cycle but with completing it.

I'd listen to what your body says. If you feel like you need rest get some, so you can enjoy casting. If you feel like a short casting session would be invigorating do that. Either way, get well!

While I've not noticed any problems casting when I'm sick, reloading is another matter altogether. I don't do it if I'm sick, having experienced mistakes attributable to the illness.

If you are alert enough to give it your undivided attention, GO FOR IT!

I agree. I don't see a problem if you can give it your undivided attention. If you can't, save it for another day. It isn't worth the risk of making a big mistake.

I think if you mixed your lead in equal parts, #2 alloy, PB and chicken noodle soup you'd be fine. Just kidn'. I hope you get to feeling better. I know how it is when you want to do something and the body just doesn't want to cooperate. You probably got a new mould your just dying to try out too. I suggest a good dose of the huntn' channel for now. And the chicken noodle soup. By itself, maybe some crackers added.

If you are not impaired by medication, I think it would be a great way to pass the time.

casting yes if you pay attention. No way to reloading, I use pain meds and delay that for days I am not taking as many of them because they can affect my concentration at my max dose.

Yeah, I gave it a whirl. No problems, I was plenty alert, but my heart was just not into it. After about half an hour I just bagged it, curled up in a blanket with the dog and watched TV!

Be sure to flux with chicken bullion cubes next time.

Well, there are medical claims that zinc lozenges will shorten the duration of a cold, so maybe its time to drag out that contaminated alloy and give it a whirl!

Geeeeze! Casting bullets is like any hobby. If you don't feel like doing it, then don't! There is no compounded health problems. If your nose is dribbling and you have to blow/wipe every 19 seconds, mebbe you don't have time to cast between blows. If I have a cold/flu, I usually don't feel like doing anything except drinking hot lemonade and watching Gunsmoke. (a few years ago my favorite remedy for a cold was 1 pint of Rock-and-Rye, juice of 2 small lemons, drink and go to bed. Often the cold would be gone the next morning. Errr, I think it was gone???)

Did you mean rye on the rocks with lemon?

I was thinking the same thing! One guys sniffle is the next guys ebola.

Now you've got me thinking about taking a "sick" day from work. Casting could be just the therapy I need.

Casting is probably safer than getting in car and driving to work with a cold. Time for a sick day!

What Idz said. If I went to work with a cold, I would first receive an arzkickin', and 2) be ushered back out to my truck and told to go home...

Just another casting day if you even feel like it.

That was a pet peeve when I worked at the casino. Guys with young kids would come into work with whatever the kids dragged home from school and would infect the entire shop. Stay away from me if you are sick, I do not want the crud your kids caught at school!

Like I have been told "if your gona run with scissors may as well do it naked"

Just be careful. It would take longer to heal from a burn then gey over a cold.

Same goes for most things shooting or reloading. Watch a movie on NetFlix instread.

Patrick, I see your upstate NY. I just checked the wx in the Delaware co area where my Daughter lives. At 18 degrees and high of 21, I'd stay inside. Unless you have a heated area with ventilation I'd pass fer a while till you feel better.
We got hooked on the walking dead marathon. Never watched before. TV it is !
Best of the new year to ya, feel well.

If you feel good enough to do all the prep work and start the melt, you are good enough to cast.
Give-er.
get well soon

I go to work sick all the time. And there are much greater hazards there compared to casting. It takes a lot to keep me down and if I'm down it means I don't get out of bed. I don't see any issues casting while under the weather.

Rock and Rye; Rock candy dissolved in Rye Whiskey. Bottled with a lemon slice and a red cherry. Sweet, but not as sweet as Southern Comfort. For me it was too sweet for every day drinkin' and I just used it for a home remedy for colds, flu, etc. I figgered the vitamin C from the lemon juice, the sugar from the rock candy for energy, and the alcohol to help me sleep would allow me to "sweat out" the cold overnight.

Worked for me...[smilie=p:

As long as you haven't been to Africa in the last 21 days you should be fine ;-)

+1. It's not the cold/runny nose as much as feeling rotten--just not fun and that's one of the big reasons I cast

Think of it this way..... all you need is a little nose drippage in the lead and the tinsel fairy will make a visit.

Although many times I have thought about the same thing; I don't cast when I'm sick.
Yeah, I been bored when sick and wanted to do casting, I just won't.
Because, I think your immune system is weak (that why your sick), and I don't want anything to do with lead, with a known weak immune system.
Im not a doctor, thats just my 2 cents.

Dude, take some Tylenol and 3 ounce of bourbon or scotch. Next go to sleep. For three days repeat.
