It was so miserable out today with snow squalls I finally gave up and went to the gun shop. Picture a Savage 99, take down, good shape, 22 Savage Hi Power!!!! Cripes, I hate these decisions.

I'd start driving there right now if I knew where I was going. You'll never forgive yourself if you don't grab it or tell me where it is.

I'm from Oregon too. Do you ever get to the gun club in Albany?

For me the decision would be layaway, raid the savings account, or plastic.

The owner says, "Put it on the rack in the back with the other rifles you have on layaway." I think that guy and I are going to be seeing each other for a very long time......

I have a friend whose weakness is bad enough that there are a couple of dealers who call him a couple times a month to tell him what has come in the store since they last talked.

Bret,

While it's on layaway, time to start looking for dies, brass, bullets, and bullet molds. There was a 227 lyman mold on eBay not that long ago.

You realize this is a den of "Enablers" right Bret? The only 12 step program here is from gunshop to gunshop.

After stretching the finances to buy a springer and an arisaka on th eweekend I found a Savage pump action 22LR with a 23-24" octagonal barrel in excellent condition on Monday. No way was I going to spend any more money, so I swapped a very small pistol safe and a small rifle cabinet for it (cheap chinese ones, that I bought, fitted at my sister in laws place, but never used). I would have probably got more money for the safes but it saved me a lot of hassle I suppose.

Brett.....

I see that we are stressing you out, so with no other motives [smilie=1: on my part, please PM the location of the rifle so I can have it shipped to Oregon and out of temptation.

A shooting friend has one like that....with presentation grade wood no less. I'm hoping to negotiate with the widow one of these days. Go for it./beagle

Bret,

I will save you the trouble of dealing with these clowns. I realize, in my altruistic nature, that this purchase is somewhat like an addiction....you just can't seem to help yourself...you must buy, or go stark-raving mad.

I then offer my services in order to help you cope with your malady. Simply purchase the rifle, then let some deserving trustworthy soul like......like.....like.....ME perhaps hold on to your new toy until you see something else you like, and then find another worthy friend to help.

This way you can feed your addiction until you can wean yourself [or your money runs out], while we all rally around you to help you in your hour of need.

Of course you may never wish to see those toys again as they might bring up bad memories and cause you to backslide on your newfound inner strength. I believe we are all willing to sacrifice to help out a brother in need.

There will be no charge for this first installment of my treatment services.

You need this. You deserve it. Just think of it as a nice little present to yourself.

Your welcome.

Why do you want it? Easy to explain.

Why do you need it? Much harder to explain.

Go for it. I purchased a Grey Ghost from a cousin in 1965. Still have 100 rounds that came with the gun and MANY stories to tell about it. The only mould I have ever seen for sale for the 228 dia. it needs is Lyman #228367. By the way S&B sells new ammo for your new toy. Some of that old brass had been cast boolit small rifle primer but still did the job any midnight he went after his next supply of meat. :-D:-D:-D BWB:castmine:

Thanks boys. Already spotted the S+B 5.6x52R ammo at Cheaper Then Dirt, checked NEI for moulds and cruised the 'net for more info. You guys are a great support group! "Hi. My name is Bret and I'm a Savage 99 freak....."

Awwww Jeeze! Now I'm watching an Ebay auction for 10 boxes of CIL ammo, dies, etc. This is getting expensive!

I know how you feel.

There's a guy that has an absoulty beautiful, all original Krag rifle he wants $700 for. It's in S cal, and he doesn't want to ship it, but wants a face to face transfer. Bore is near mint. The only drawback is the stock has been lightly refinished.

I'm trying to talk him into shipping it if I send him a gun case w/box and a UPS call tag. I shouldn't buy it, but dang it's drop dead georgous.. :groner:
