I have been having mediocre accuracy with my new to me 629-2 .44 mag. Probably loaded close to 20 different loads with 3 different boolits and I finally worked up a load that I am happy with. It is a RCBS44-250 swc over 18.5 grains of 2400 with WLP primers. I also tried some CCI 300 primers but still always had a flier in each group. It could have really been me or any other number of variables but it didn't happen with WLP primers. Then gun now shoots to poa at 25 yards with nice small round groups about 1 1/2 to 2" with the factory open sights, which is very good for me 'cause I suck at shooting a pistol. I am glad I finally found a good load as I was really starting to get frustrated with this gun.
I see a lot of hotter loads posted with this boolit and powder but my gun didn't like them that hot. I'm confident this load will do for hunting whitetail deer. I didnt have the chrony set up for this last session but I figure they are somewhere between 1100-1200fps.
The boolits in the pic with the gun are Noe 432-265 over 19.5 gr H110 and also shoot ok but several inches lower and slightly bigger groups.

Keith bullets are my favorite for the 44. I have a couple of loads I like but most of the hot stuff involves 2400 which I am out of and is no where to be found.

Your load and your shooting is just fine in my book. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?264409-Revolver-Accuracy-Perspection-perception-and-reality

Love it when a plan comes together. When effort yields good results, it just makes you smile.

1100 fps is plenty for whitetail.....you won't be recovering many boolits tho....in and out!!!

^^ This ^^ The boolit weight and vel listed by the OP is more than enough to do the job. After tagging several white tails with similar loads (including one shot through length wise) I have backed it down into the 240 gr./1000 fps. range.

Fastadio, PLEASE try some Federal standard large pistol primers with that load, I think you'll find even more improvement, I know I did as have many others. My load is 19.3 grains of 2400 over a radius-groove 429421 factory HP (right at 240 grains with 16:1 alloy) and it shoots under 2 MOA at 100 yards if I haven't had too much coffee that morning. CCI LP primers got me twice that size, and magnum primers of three flavors even worse.

Plenty for whitetail. Driving them faster isn't going to matter, they are exiting the deer from just about any angle much past 1000fps, which is a good thing.

My 629-2 has a much shorter barrel than yours, Randy. Does yours have the round butt? Mine does and the un-fluted cylinder as well.

It wore the same grips as yours too. I think somewhere along the line someone replaced the 2" pipe with the one it's wearing now.

Glad to hear you've got it shooting to your satisfaction!

I agree with everyone else. My pre 29 is my baby and I'm not gonna abuse her any. A Keith at @1100 is plenty.
