I've had the rifle for nearly a year but just didn't have the time & opportunity to shoot it. I got it used and already scoped. While at the range just for giggles I sent a factory load to the steel plate at 200 yards and to my surprise I nearly hit it. Next shot was a hit. Go figure a used gun with a zeroed scope and a good shooter. Next I tried some Lee 309-113 with 9 grains of Trail Boss at the same 200 yard target and it hit a little low. A two dot holdover and another strike. Didn't try the 100 yard targets cause I was too lazy to walk a target out. Wife and daughter both with me so a truly great day!

My favorite rifle with my favorite boolit(soupcan). Glad you finally got to shoot yours. I'll have to try that Trailboss load.

Good shooting!
I recently bought a Marlin 336 in 30-30 Win (pre-safety) and I took it to the range with a load I put together consisting of the following components:
150 gr Power Lock Hornady bullets
31.0 gr IMR 3031 powder
WLR primers
OAL= 2.520"
The results are shown in the picture below for a 50 yard range. One of the 5 shots is definitely a flyer and I disregarded. Now that's the first load I ever tried in this rifle. I was using a 3x9x40 tasco scope. A better scope may be able to improve that group even further. Good luck with your rifle.

Greetings
Hard to beat 3031 in a 30-30. Actually hard to beat 3031 in most any rifle caliber .30 and above with cast as a good all around powder. My only regret with 3031 was I did not buy 2 8 pounders years back.

love my marlin 336w in .30-30, haven't used cast in it yet, but it likes the Sierra pro hunters 150 FP and the Winchester power points over some IMR4895 30.5gr for the pro hunters and 31gr with the power points using WLR primers

this was at 50 yards, i had to redial the scope due to lack of loctite on the base, was working with a spotter to save from walking and to save on targets, that is why so many groups

Some 'experts' say you can't use cast in the 336 micro-groove barrel. Sounds like you had no problem. What was your cast alloy?

Good to hear you had good luck at extended range with that boolit. I'd only been using The Lee 309-113F at 50 yards and wondered how it would work out yonder.

The experts at one time insisted that the earth was flat and that the sun orbited the earth. Marlin MG rifles shoot cast just fine as long as the boolit size is correct.

This is all true. My boolits were 50/50 coww/pure sized to.3095
