Here in my shop putting a 30-30 barrel on a vz-24 and I happen to get this idea. If I take a 8mm barrel(military) and short chamber it (with a 8mm reamer) for a 7.62x39 will it fill out with a stiff fireform? Man, that big 245 gr maxi would be a blast chugging along! Kinda hope this is possible. Would give a wee bit of powder increase that I don't need. And if the 8mm reamer would not be best what about a rusky reamer and what would be the best route to open neck and some free bore?125447

A 7.92x39 based on a nek'd up 7.62x39 case? Or a 8mm short (X39mm) based on the 8x57 case?

I guess it sounds confusing. I have a 8mm barrel no chamber. I would like to run a 8mm mauser reamer in as far as the 7.62x39 case would go minus a little for the stretch when fireforming. All of this is buckshots fault for showing his sweet mauser in 7.62x39. I thought if he can have a mauser in that cartridge so should I! Rather than buying the proper barrel and that all my 7.62x39 chambers are large making proper cast boolits difficult(because lack of molds) but I have plenty for 8mm and these empty cases are almost that big from generous rusky chambers this might work. I am not interested in speed and the rusky case is very frugal with powder which suits me.

the bible says in the multitude of counselers there is safety! I got to talking this over with my son and it came clear ream with a 7.62x39 reamer than open the neck to proper specs. Sorry for all of my confusion but the day is not all lost because that vz 24 in 30-30 came out real nice!
