I would like to try this combo in my 94 winchester. I can't seem to find data for a 185 cast... seems folks just love this combo. Could you share your 4198, 4895sc, 2230-C or other loads please? Stuck on my phone for several days and taptalk stinks at searching.

Thanks Matt

I have the Lyman 311041 mold. We shoot it through my brothers Marlin. The best load we have so far is said boolit 10bhn sized to .311" lubed with BAC and using Gator checks sitting over 18gr of 2400 with a .7gr tuff of Dacron. This load produces 1848fps and will put 5 rounds into .8" at 50 yards.

Have always used 3031. Started with 25 grains and worked up to 27 grains which gave very good grouping at 100 yards (in two 94's). You can go as high as 30 or 31 grains, if you need it....that is listed as the max. Both bullets are around 170 grains. LLS

Hi Matt. I use 16 grains of 2400 with the 311041 RD without filler. Don't have a chrono but it gets the job done in my Rem 788 and Savage 340E.

I use 30.5 gr IMR 4064 in my '69 Marlin 336. 1" groups at 50 yards and ~2100 fps. Deer are DRT if you do your part.

I have a plain base version of the 311041 bullet that I use 8 grains of Unique for about 1200 fps.

I load the 311041 that weighs just over 170grs with 28grs of H4895 behind it. Good for less than 2" groups in my #5 Contender carbine. Start a little lower and work up.

So far, the Ranch Dog 311165 and the Lyman 31141 both have really liked 25.5gr. of H4895SC. The rain has been horrible today and only got to shoot 10 or 15 rounds. BTW, my copy of the 31141 seems to drop heavy at 181.5 lubed and checked. Thanks for the input. I am also teaching my 12 yo daughter to reload while working up a load for the old rifle!

Matt since you said "or other loads" I'll get in on this. I'm loading that boolit in my 336 Marlin and big brother Art is using it in 2 Winchester 94's. He's real partial to TrailBoss. Does exactly what he wants out of the load, an all day low recoil plinker. I'm sold on 2400. I settled on 14gr. with a Dacron filler and I have a few groups at 100yds. that you could cover with a nickel. I'll admit that's not open sights. (4X16X50 scope...seriously) Before using Dacron find Larry Gibsons article on fillers. Remember it's not a wad...it's a filler. I have also tried Unique, 3031, TrailBoss and some others but never got what I was looking for. I wanted easier to meter powder and low recoil plinkers. Audie...the Oldfart..

30-30 can't get any recoil no matter what. 3031 and 4895, even 4064 or Varget.
good boolit, use rifle loads.

AA 4064 is a good case fill in the 30-30. I picked up an 8 pound jug a couple years ago because couldn't find my usual powder in that range. It's not very much like IMR 4064. More like H-Varget. Being slower than IMR4064 and the stick size is closer to Varget as it meters just fine. With a 150 grain boolit case fill is right up in the shoulder IIRC. Burns super clean even with reduced pressure loads in my 30-06.

In a 30-30 I pretty much just run a 10% reduced metal jacket charge. Not that it won't run full throttle with cast. Just I want the brass to last a long time and I have big bolt guns for big power shooting. Never clocked it but think I'm running about 2,200 fps with a 150 grain Saeco from my Win 94 AE. However for absolute power. I have a H-LeveRevolution powder load under the RCBS 30-180-FN that weighs 200 grains from my mold and alloy. If you want maximum power that's the powder to use in the 30-30. Larry Gibson has done quite a bit of load work on it. Has a nice long thread here from a couple years back. It likes bullets of 170 grains and up and charges at the high end. You get more velocity without increased pressure.

aa-2230 24,5 grs is what I mainly shoot.
one of my favorites with the 311041 boolit is with 34grs of 4831, you can go to 36 [bout all that fits in the case] it gives me 1800 fps with a 20" barrel and is quiet.
20 sum of the 4198 should do well, I use 24 in my 32 win and it's bout right there as far as accuracy and velocity balance.
