Anyone running red dot under these? Thinking about starting at 4.0 grains seated at 1.205 COAL. Seems like similar bearing surface to a 452630, but seated a little deeper and the Lyman 49th starts the 452630 at 4.4 grains of red dot.

I would not load more that 5, then try them and 1: make sure they will cycle your gun, 2: You like what happens at the target. I've not used Red Dot, but with Bullseye, I can go as low as 3.6gr, but the cycle reliability doesn't hold up as the gun gets dirty, I finally settled 4.2, doesn't throw the empties across the room, but cycles every time, and makes my Lee TL 200 SWC cut beautiful holes in the target. I hope I don't have to change powder types.

I seem to get away with 3.9 grains of red dot in my 45 with both 200 grain swc and 230 TC. I also use the same powder charge in 9mm and 38 special. Keeps things simple.

Depends on what you are looking for, minor or major loads, but red dot is a god choice in 45acp.

I use 5.0 grains of Red Dot with the 200 grain SAECO 451 (lyman 452460 clone) and my various H&G 68 clones.

Edited to add: I didn't randomly select 5.0 grains for my load. That's the actual measured weight thrown by my Little Dandy #13 rotor. YMMV

4.6gr under the 200 seems to burn clean for me. Good for both acp and colt stuff

Thanks, I ran the 4.0 today and it was really accurate. Cycled everything I tried it in.

I really like RD in the 45 ACP as well. Bulky for its charge weight, fills the case well, gets high velocity for a given charge, and is capable of reduced or standard velocities at said economical charge weights. Low basic cost per pound. Decently clean burning.

There's a lot to like. It is my most commonly used powder in the cartridge.....this, or Promo, whatever I can find. Since I found a lot of it at a decent price I'm set for quite a while. That's a good feeling in powder sufficiency, not common these days!

I use only Promo for .45 ACP. Promo 4.5 gr runs 780 fps with Lyman 452374 (225 gr) at OAL 1.272 and 830 fps with Lyman 452630 (200 gr) at OAL 1.245.

I've used a lot of 700-X in the ACP and with 200's, I've loaded up to 5.5 gr., but usually shot 5.0 gr. That was my normal "practice" load. It was a tad cheaper to shoot than my usual, somewhat heavier Unique loads, but it really did about anything I ever asked it to do. I too would give 5.0 gr. a try.

I'm running 5 gr of Red Dot under a 230 cast HP and loving the load. When I run out of Red Dot I am hoping my left over Promo works as well.

RD works ,but it don`t like cramped quarters, it gets HOT fast when in cramped quarters

Hey, bring on the Red Dot talk, I just scored 4 pounds. At 3-5 grains per cartridge, for the moderate amount that I shoot it could be a lifetime supply!
