The first time I heard Joe Cocker was doing homework. The Power House KOMA from OK City blasted "With a little help from my friends" on transistor radio.

I admired him from being so strung out to getting sober while being employed doing what he loved since the mid 60's. A unique voice that put a twist on others hits some werebetter, some not but all Joe Cocker

I was never impressed with him, all he did was cover a bunch of songs.

No Way.!! I worked in someone's basement all day and no reception, it seems now the world is a lesser place.
I get by with a little help from my friends.
I'm sadder now.

I grew up out in West Texas and the only stations we could get at night were KOMA and WLS in Chicago as the Amarillo stations and Wolfman Jack on the Del Rio station shut down in the evenings. I had one of those little crystal radios shaped like a rocket ship, with the ear phone, and you tuned it to the station by pulling out a rod in the nose cone of the thing. Sometimes, I had to use a coat hanger as an antenna when the atmospheric conditions weren't right. The thing worked quite well and I don't think my mama ever knew I was listening to rock and roll instead of going to sleep for the next day at school.

Elvis never wrote his own stuff either.
