View Full Version : Floppy Trigger in Winchester 94

I just traded into a Win 94 in 30-30 circa 1975. The trigger seems to swing forward freely without any spring tension holding it to the rear. Is that normal? Everything seems to function as normal as far as trigger firing the rifle.

Here is the story I got from the guy who traded the gun. He said he bought it in pieces in a box. The fella before him had taken it appart and couldn't get it back together (must not have youtube). He took it to a "gunsmith" for the re-assembly. That gunsmith is noted for his pistol work more than rifles. Did he miss something?

I also took a look into the trigger mechanism. I removed the stock, removed the trigger pivot screw and pulled the trigger mechanism out, separating it from the hammer. With the hammer removed, the trigger had the spring tension pushing on it.

Do I live with it or is there a fix for it? Or is it normal?

I don't know squat about post '64 Win. 94's, but on pre '64's it's normal. Regards, Woody

People complain all the time about 94's rattling, being loose, floppy etc. Well they are supposed to be. They don't work as well if you get all the rattles out. Their purpose is to quickly and smoothly kill medium sized game out to 100 or so yards which is 3 times as far as I can see in the woods. I love them more than any other rifle.

Must be a levergun thing. All my JM's do the same thing. Never gave it to much thought.

Normal on the M94 rifles I've owned which have all been post-64 models. However I thought the newer 'angle-eject' M94 rifles had a different trigger that didn't flop...could be wrong though as I've never owned one of those

yup, loose as a goose but we love em! My 30-30ae is a little tighter than most 94's but my 444 timber rifle is totally quiet and solid like a marlin. I often wondered why that 94 bb is has such tight and clean guts and is as smooth as you want, almost like a marlin and most of the run of the mill 94's rattle into glory.

Yep the Ted Williams Model 100 30-30(Which is a Winchester model 94) does the same thing. Rattles like a model A ford on a rocky road.
