I'm fairly new to the game of casting, and new to the forum. Several of the posts I've read speak of isotope cores, sounds like these are a good grade of pure lead. Is that correct, where do they come from and how do you get them?

Sometimes you will find them at scrap metal yards. Perhaps you know someone in the radiology field. There are a lot of threads on this topic. If you go searching scrap metal yards, check this link so you will see and recognize what you are looking for. They are not necessarily pure lead, generally they are a clean alloy.

They are about the same alloy as clip on wheel weights.
Very clean stuff.

There many different types of canisters. Some painted some not.

I get mine at the smaller scrap yards.

I have gotten some up to 20# apiece,

They will cost about .75 # painted
1.00# for clean.

This was 140 #s
The paint cooked right off, glad I live in the country.
