I was looking thru the January issue of Field and Stream this morning and I was shocked !! I started at the back where the ads used to be for fly in trips, chartered hunting and fishing trips, etc.,. To my dismay here are half size and full page ads for: picking up women, male enhancement drugs, how to get russian brides, how to have a better sex life and a full page ad on how to make your penis bigger !! Oh come on Field and Stream ..... what is all this crap doing in your magazine ???
We have children .... young hunters and fishermen looking thru this magazine and they see all this sex trash. I realize F&S gets money from advertising, but this stuff that borders on pornography? Maybe the sales folks need to get off their lazy arses and go out to the hunting and fishing vendors and get ads that reflect huinting and fishing and trips, not this sex crap which is the same crap you get spammed with everyday on the internet.
How low with a company crawl on their bellies to get advertising dollars ? Field and Stream is obviously one of those low crawlers ........
I'm just one small person in a large corporate world. F&S could care less about me and my interests. To a big company like F&S I'm nothing but a fart in a wind storm, But I am a reader ...and I very much dislike what I saw this morning ... I'm a hunter, shooter and fisherman, and I CAN voice my opinion over the internet for hundreds, or maybe millions of people to see about this distasteful trash featured in a magazine that supposedly represents my hobby.
No more Field and Stream for me .... They have lost one reader and buyer.

I understand your frustration. Did you inform the magazine of your feelings?
A polite letter or phone call can do wonders. Like most places a letter is given more attention. Point out the fact that this is not what you read the magazine for.
They need to know that the adds are not hitting the right demographic.
Just some Ideas.

I agree 100% with Ohio Rusty and have written letters never to recieve an answer. A letter disagreeing with me is better than being ignored. That just gives them another reason for me to not like their product.

I don't care for it either but the advertisers seem to think the readers of F&S and American Rifleman are in their target demographic. I've seen the same ads in both magazines.

"Honest, honey: I only read it for the articles!"

Try Fur-Fish-Game magazine. Not much high dollar stuff and NO sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Backwoodsman is another like that.

I'm no prude, but I do have a sense of propriety that borders on the fanatical I suppose. I truly believe there is a time and place for everything, that manners and judgment should dictate where and when things are done and that character (and I could use some more character myself) should guide you to doing the right thing. That type of thinking seems to have died out. It's part of our decaying society.

While we are on this topic, what do we have to do to ban commercials for ED drugs before 10pm or later. I don't like the idea that these damn commercials are now on the Saturday morning cartoons. I've sent my representatives my thoughts, maybe the FCC needs to be told.

The best way to stop bad advertising is to not buy the product. So if you guys quit ordering the stuff, the company will go out of business. One guy on the forum confided in me that he uses Viagara. When God tells you to quit, quit.

Maybe we ought to take this up with Senator McCain. I mean, he obviously doesn't believe in freedom of speech for those who would publicly challenge the positions/voting records of incumbent politicians (McCain-Feingold) so why should the right of legal businesses to promote their product...no matter how tasteless or poorly scheduled their advertising... be protected either.

That is the greatest power on earth, when we stop buying the stuff they will stop printing it. "THE POWER IS THE PEOPLE"
If ther is no demand there will be no product!!!!!!

Personally, I've found it affective to write to the publisher. About 4 or 5 years ago one of the Wolfe publishing mags (CRS) had a full page add for something advocating the "harvesting" of women "other than your wife". I immediately wrote a polite but firm letter to the publisher denouncing this and threatening withdrawal from his circulation.
Within only a few days I received a personal letter from and signed by the publisher, apologizing for the effrontery and explaining that is was his "dropped ball". Also that corrective action had been taken and I could be assured that it would never happen again.
And so it has remained true, so far.
Don't cry to me, let 'em know!!!!

are the reasons I do NOT subscribe to any of the gunzines and seldom see a article worth the cost on individual copy.

Rifle and Handloader were the last two to fall to the levels of gunzine, but they too have reached that point.

The internet and especially sites like this provide far more and better information.

I guess it is because I am an "ol Fart", but I remember way back when "American Rifleman" had useful and informative information.

Gee I watch the history channel and the western channel and when the ad's are offensive I turn off the TV. Hell we never HAD a TV for most of the time my kids were growing up. Now we have DISH and I wouldn't miss it if it got disconnected tomorrow.

I bailed out of F&S several years back because of the crude languge that they had allowed to creep in. My granddaughter liked to peruse the mags, and I just didn't want her encountering this in grandpa's reading matreial. I contacted them, they replied that the "younger" folks didn't seem to mind.

The next issue that arrived, I simply wrote "refused" on the label and sent it back. That was the last of it. Haven't missed it a bit.
