Picked this doe off the other night. A younger doe stepped out on my right but was obviously nervous as could be. I had to move my rifle to get into position but she saw me and ran back in the woods. This one slowly worked her way out of cover where I could take a shot. Usually my shots happen pretty quick, but this was probably the longest I have had to watch a deer waiting for the right moment. Sure was exciting! Shot was from about 25-30 yards. Hit her right in the heart and she still managed to run 50 yards. Probably the most damage yet from my 30-06 CB load, Lee 170 90/10 AC COWW/SOWW over 21 grains of 2400 for an estimated 1800 fps. Not bad by any stretch, but more than any of the others. The only thing I can figure is that she seemed like an older doe and her ribs were harder and created more shrapnel.

Nice!

Thing I have noticed over the years about heart shots, deer usually kick it the afterburner for a quick but short sprint!

Boolit did some real damage!

Good job! It's amazing how much ground a "dead" deer can cover.

Congratulations. In my experience a heart shot deer goes a bit further than a double lung hit but leaves one heck of a blood trail. Just like Elmer said,
