I know I have seen this recently but I am not finding it. A boolit of pure lead versus a boolit of wheel-weight, which is larger in diameter when cool and all else is the same?

Pure lead will usually cast slightly smaller than most alloys. The larger the diameter the greater the difference. Very small differences are seen in small diameter bullets but become greater with larger bullets. Since all alloys are not created equal any numbers you see are only good for the particular alloy tested. For example all "wheelweight" alloys are not the same and all "#2" alloys are not the same, etc.

The wheel-weight boolit would be largest in diameter. The harder the alloy, the less shrinkage.

There should also be a relationship between the rate of solidifying and shrinking which would depend on the mold mass and material.

So.... the harder it is... the bigger it is.

Is that starting to bring back forgotten memories, Uncle?

Yep!... I'm like you Retired Twice, but considering my last comment, maybe I should say three times!
