122912 I had to seat to 2.230" and still had light engraving on the boolit. This OAL is way too short and might not be safe to shoot. I was very surprised by this when I put these together this evening and tried to chamber a few. My rifle has microgroove rifling. Surely several of y'all have some experience with this rifle/boolit combo. Thanks in advance for your help.

I forgot to add that this is a 30-30 and the boolits are sized to .309"

I shoot that same boolit in my 30-06. I too size to .309. Plus gas check. I took sized cartridge and just started the boolit maybe half way, then chamber it, and lock it in, or close bolt. Take it out and put it into seating die, with the adjustment all the way up. Then run the adjustment down then push it in or 2 thousanths. If it is a magazine gun, check fit and you're all set.

I seat to the crimp groove in my 30AS and it lightly engraves the entire boolit body. Cartridges still extract without pulling, so I call it good. I suspect that excellent body support is one of the reasons this boolit shoots so well.

The boolit's nose is touching the lands of the rifling and forcing the boolit into the case. You can live with it as imashooter2 describes or change your alloy to try and come up with a slightly smaller diameter nose or if you want to go to the trouble you can run the nose of the slug into a die small enough (probably .302" or so) to reduce the diameter below your rifle's land (bore) diameter. I suggest seating to the crimp groove and allowing the slug to be engraved if your alloy will allow doing so.

When seated at the crimp groove, the nose is deeply engraved and the bolt is very hard to close
