Hey All,

I have looked at the Lyman 412263 a few times for a lighter bullet to shoot out of a 1-16" twist in one of my White muzzleloaders.
The Lyman site lists it a 288 grains, but a couple of the cast bullet companies that offer it, list it as a 330 grainer.
Does anyone have any insight?

Also, if anyone is familiar with the 2 small and 1 larger lube groove....Please comment!

Am currently loading and using this bullet for a .405 Win Model 1895. Its an original mold in that it is a single cavity and I got it in the late 70's. I have to cast slowly with it as it tends to overheat because of the size and weight of the bullet in relation to the size of the blocks. It casts with WW at .413, weighs around 290 grains and has three grooves in it. The one in the rear is the larger one and it has a square bottom. the 2 smaller grooves are in front; they also are square bottomed. A vintage Lyman Handbook of Cast bullets circa the 60's says that the front groove is supposed to be a "dirt catcher groove", but I fill it with lube. Shoot it unsized.. no leading. I crimp in the second groove or just behind the forward band. It shoots accurately at 100 yards with 45 grains of 3031 and is a tolerable load recoilwise at 1750 fps. I have also gone as high as 57 grains of 3031 (max) at 2250 fps (both loads are from the same Lyman Handbook) and in terms of recoil that higher loading kicks the devil right out of hell. The 95 has a curved buttplate and one puts it in the wrong place only once. For big hunting purposes the 412263 will ventilate anything in the western hemisphere.

The Lyman 412263 mold arrived yesterday. It was a "special order" from Midsouth, but was the same price, $46.55, as most of the standard Lyman molds. I was told that it was a special order because they did not have room on the shelf to stock it.

The ones I cast yesterday weigh right at 296 on my balance scale. They measure just under .413 on the inside, and just over .413 on the seam.

I think this will make a good all-around bullet for my .410 White Muzzleloader
