The neighbor came over yesterday. In our talk he mentioned he had to go to the pawn shop tomorrow to get some cash. He lost his job in construction and gets by on smnall jobs. Now that the weather has turned he can't cut grass untill spring, but the bills keep coming. He said he was going to sell his Mosine Nagant. I asked him how much he needed, and he said $150. So I gave him the money. Now understand I do not intend to keep this rifle. When he is working again next spring I'll sell it back to him for the same price. I got to looking at it today and it is super nice. Mine will never look this good. Not a blemish anywhere on the stock, in fact it looks better than the stock I have on my Remington 70. I have never seen one of these in such good condition. I looked up some numbers. it has SK.Y on the barrel along with the Finish mark and other marks and found it is a M39 and is one of the civil guard rifles. It has 1942 on the barrel. I pulled the bolt out and cosmoline driped out of it. It is in despirate need of a deep cleaning inside. I plan to do that before giving it back to him. He is a good neighbor that just needs a little help right now.

I have done similar things, as my dad when he was alive. Actually my first 22 dad bought like that for 10 bucks, I shot it quite a bit but the guy (from church) bought it back 6 months or so later. I do not actually remember any of those deals I have made them ever buying back.

You are a good person! And that rifle is likely worth $450+++ depending on the numbers matching. Fairly rare Mosin!

Only Mosin worth $450 would be a PU
We used to buy them 10 years ago for $45-60

It might not resale for 450, but if the bore is good it will outshoot anything on the market today for that price. They sell from 350~400 pending their markings. Mine will outshot all my many mil~surps, Swiss ,Swede, German, English, even some of my Scopes rifles. You did good! If nothing else shoot it until he wants it back, you won't be disappointed.

I used to give a one year buy back. I had a former co-worker come back about ten years later for a Stevens side by side double 12. I love side by sides!
I dug out the old checkbook register where I paid for it and I had him set the buy back price.

Nicely done sir, its only a community when we help each other out and care about one another. Now for my dier warning; you suddenly own two nagants, didn't plan for it didn't go looking but it just happened. Tread very carefully because I've seen this happen many many times. Before you know it you will have 10 of them and two sporterizing projects going on to make nice hunters of those old war horses. And when you finished those two the price tag Wii be higher than what you could have bought a new Remington 700 for, which you'll see I'm right cause you'll have sold a 700 to fund the project and when your at the gun shop selling said 700 another old pitiful nagant will follow you home cause it called to you and you couldn't walk away.

I'm thinking he did good either way. Gave him more than a pawn shop likely would and helped a friend out of a bind.

You do have to shoot it just to make sure it is a safe rifle for him to have! LOL

SkY M39s are worth a bit more than most. They were built for the Finnish Civil Guard which has a collector following. Only about 10,000 were made.

$400 + is my estimate without seeing it.

You guys are making it hard for me to think of giving it back to him. But I will.
I'll see if I can get a camera working and get some pictures for you.
