View Full Version : When They Come Bearing Gifts, . . . Beware!

About a year ago, I helped a buddy set up his new reloading press. He had been gifted these, and since he wasn't a caster, he re-gifted them to me. He was so thankful! I didn't own any .41 Mag firearms, so I put them on a shelf, and somewhat out of mind.

Then, about a month ago, I helped another buddy re-finish the stock of a M1 Garand that I had sold him. He had been gifted this, but since he didn't own any .41 Mag firearms, he re-gifted it to me. He was so thankful!

My memories of the RCBS 41-210-KT mould were revived. Then, about two weeks ago, I was in the local Cabela's looking for some powder, and I saw that they had bags of new .41 Mag brass in stock. All my memories came flooding back. I was so thankful!

Then, I was already sliding down the slippery slope, and I realized that further resistance was futile. I went on Gunbroker and soon became the proud owner of this stuff:

I was so thankful! I already had a .410 H&I die that came in a Box-O-Stuff that I bought at a gunshow.

Now, the question I need help with is, which of these two lubes that I have would give me the best results in this Ruger Blackhawk with the 41-210 KT Boolit?

I won't be shooting them anywhere near maximum levels. I'll probably cast them mostly in the 10 to 12 BHN range.
Thanks in Advance!

Jeff

I use White Label 2500 plus in my .41 mag Blackhawk. great accuracy and no leading from mild to wild loads. If you cast rifle boolits, save the carnauba red for them. I have used the 2500 plus up to 2100 fps in a rifle with no leading and good accuracy.

I use 2500+ in both pistol and rifle.
In my 41 marlin and ruger i have been more than pleased.

mix 2 of the yellow with one of the red...
I like to add a full tsp of lanolin to the mix.

I have been using White Label Carnauba Red for the last several years in all of my handgun loads. I get great results (accuracy under an inch at 25 yards from a number of calibers from .32 - .45) whether running full house or at target velocity. The only caveat, is that you need a heated lube/sizer for it to flow. I prefer the Red simply because it resists melting when left in a hot car.

Lars White Label are really good people to do business with, too.

I don't own and never load for any 41 Mag, but I agree with Dale53 that the Panama Red (oops, "Carnauba Red") that he puts on his bullets with heat does really well on all of the bullets he has provided for me or allowed to lube for myself on his equipment. Some of those bullets were lubed over 2 years ago, but the lube rings have not dried out or flaked off from the bullets they were used on. Performance through the guns I do use these bullets for is always good.
Another vote for the red stuff!

I have two of the same mold to feed my 657, I really love the caliber, just keep your .44 brass and .41 in separate bag, I hate separating brass.

funny thing with a mild alloy 13-14 BHN, my two molds drop at 217-218 grains, you would think the slightly harder alloy would be lower in weight. But its common my .44 and 10mm RCBS molds do the same thing. Doesn't hurt anything I treat them as 220 grain bullets.

I used 2500 in my 41mag up to 1200FPS with no problems.

I have some of the 2700 that I bought to try for high velocity in 60 degree and warmer weather. I wonder how it will work at 1000 - 1400 fps in colder weather?

Some things are just meant to be, resistance is futile indeed. Congrats!
