I am sure this has been covered. Does anyone load 410 slugs?

Can a guy make 410 slug loads with a brass case (303 or 444) and a cast bullet, loading them like a normal rifle or pistol round?

Thinkin a 410 slug gun could be fun to play with....single shot 410s are cheap and if I could load them with a round ball or a actual cast bullet might even more fun.

Good question, I have #1 british rifle chambered in 410 and have been thinking
about using 41 cal cast bullets(410) in it. Just haven't had the time.

i use 3 375 round balls in a claybusters wad over 8-10 grains of herco in a 444 marlin case and glue in an over shot wad with elmers it is a snug fit through the choke but does a number on coyotes -possum

2 148 gr 38 wad cutters work good too

in the brit 410 it has no choke , a 41 pistol bullet in a blown out 303 case on top of a .135 card wad and .250 waxed cushion wad put a foam ear plug on top of the boolit and then glue in a card wad , dont try this with jacketed boolits

Might be interested. Are we talking about a heavyweight hollowbase?

Ballistic Products has round ball kits for the .410 that consist of a .375 ball and special wad. They are sized for a 2½" shell and with 3" hulls you could load 2 balls. I have the stuff but have not loaded any yet. I need to get some more round tuits before I can test them out in my shotgun. The also have a little stump wad that while designed for spreading the shot pattern would do great for a multi ball load.

Yes, several of use went together and had a custom hollow base slug mold made last year. Be warned that the Lyman data is not right about the weight of the slug. They list a 238 gr. 410 slug, it is not that weight. It is about 100 gr. less weight than is what is listed. A scoped smooth bore 410 will do about 2" groups at 100 yds with three shot groups from testing given by one of those involved.

What were the specs. on that mold cut and how satisfied were you with it ??? You've already stated the accuracy you are getting, how about ease of casting, ease of loading, terminal performance ????

An inquiring mind wishes to know.

What were the specs. on that mold cut and how satisfied were you with it ??? I'm quite satisfied myself. It was about 140 gr. You've already stated the accuracy you are getting, how about ease of casting surely you jest, a one cavity hollow base mold does not put out much production nor is it fun to cast with...., ease of loading as easy as loading any hollow base slug in a shotshell case, terminal performance ???? This one was a nose pour of course and had a nice flat wide nose, whalloped things pretty good for its weight.

An inquiring mind wishes to know. I'll see if I can find the drawing for it.

. . . how about ease of casting surely you jest, a one cavity hollow base mold does not put out much production nor is it fun to cast with . . .

Well I' have/had several hollow base and hollow point molds. Some are fairly well manered; core pin slipped in easily enough and came out easily enough. Other ones either the core pin was a poor fit in the mold leading to some @%#$@$@ language or the darn thing stuck like glue to the bullet also resulting in some !@^#$%^@ language. That's basically what I was asking about.

I would be very happy if you could dig up the drawing --- Thanks Again !!!!
