I was going to start casting some boolits today, a really nice day outside. lite up my camping stove and start melting some 1/2lb to 3 lb ingots. nothing is melting. looked like it melted and cooled off.

the wind pickup within an hour.

could of the wind cooled things off that fast? I used up a can of gas in that hour too. there should of been at least 3 or 4 hours of gas.l

Yes it will mess your cooking up, sometimes i put a wind cover around my burner or give it up for the day. Like today(5:45 AM) around here we have -15 and about -40 wind chill, melting lead will have to wait. Spring is comming.

Casting outdoors? If I did that, I'd have maybe 20 days out of a year to be able to cast!

Get yourself an electric furnace, then get inside where you can be comfortable. Right now it's -6 degrees with a 20MPH wind, -29 windchill.

Now, I have had to cast in an unused firplace in cold weather and let the smoke/fumes go up the chimney. It works but is not the optimum casting conditions but if you gotta, you gotta...../beagle

I was thinking about doing something like that today while at work.

That "nasty wind" part is what always stops me!!
