My 11 year old daughter got to deer hunt with a tag and gun in hand this morning. She cashed in on her second opportunity - first deer got too close to the elevated box stand and she couldn't get him into the scope. I think this is the same buck, just showed up again. About 50 yds, 20 gauge rifled slug gun with loads she loaded herself with the Lyman "monster pellet" slugs made by CB member "Don 3" and 12 gr. of Unique. Her 9 y/o sister will be with me in the blind this afternoon and I hope to cash in on my tag with my TC Encore chambered in .260 Rem loaded with 44 gr. I4350 and 129 gr. Hornady Interlocks.

Nice work! Thank you for empowering your girls with pertinent life skills and self esteem. I love getting the kids in on the hunts! Their smiles are priceless!

Impressive! That sure is a good looking deer! I wish I had one like it in the back of my truck! 8-)

Season here opens 2 weeks from today.

I could have filled my tag pretty early on a small buck about 150 yds away. He wasn't coming any closer and she told me I should shoot it so that we get one. I explained to her that her shooting one today was the most important thing that could happen in my hunting world and if I shot that one, it was unlikely another would come along after the commotion. She said, "Ok, I'll wait a while then." I think I had more buck fever this morning than she did - the agony of not being in control of the trigger and praying that all of our hard work on targets and bunnies had paid off was difficult, but awesome to see the slug impact, the shoulder drop, and know that she had done it right.

That is awesome, a moment you both will remember for ever.

My daughter got her first deer this year at age eleven as well.

That is awesome!! Congrats to her and you for including her in your life. I was with each of my children when they got their first deer and it trully is gratifying and her smile tells it all!

Hunt with your kids ..... rather than hunt your kids! Great job.....I know you are a very proud daddy.....I am in the process of stealing my grand daughter and converting her from a girly girl to a county cow girl.....I am proud for you and your daughter!

I understand about it being more important than your own hunting.

My oldest son started with a .260 and similar loading when he was about the same age. Always seemed to me to be the perfect white tail round, at least with jacketed bullets.

Congratulations on the deer and on bringing up a good daughter, too many people raise their girls to be Barbie dolls and they're not doing them any favors by doing so.

Hey moderators! Wish there was a "like" tab for posts/threads we like but don't want to add some mindless dribble to.

selmerfan, so happy for you and your daughter! If I were in the stand with my daughter I'd probably be more nervous than her too LOL!
