Just saw an article that someone has opened the neck of the .223 to .257 and they call it something like .223/.45.
Do any of you know anything about it?? I have thought for a long time it could and should make a great inexpensive plinking round. Lyman makes a 65 grain mold. Bull Berry and MGM Machining make barrels for the contender. If you are familiar with this new round please email me at dworley790@gmail.com Thanks so much!! dd

It is called a 25-223 or .25-45 Sharps. Came about for ARs but can be chambered in other rifles. It is good option for guys in states where you can't use a .22cal.

It's also called the 257TCU , which was introduced in the silhouette game by Wes Ugalde and it makes a fine cast bullet hunting round. it appeared in the late 1980s. I have an MGM barrel for my Encore in 257TCU and at one hundred yards, it groups within a half inch. It was introduced before the AR became popular in the commercial market. Nothing new about it

Actually the first I've heard of this cartridge, and I'm very intrigued. Very. Intrigued. I might be very interested in an upper for my AR.

Not doing anything new. 6x45 has been around for years. But I do like the 25-45 and it seems like the most logical and pain free way to go up in caliber on a standard sized AR. I haven't seen any barrels other than the hbar barrels that SRC sells. It'd be a natural for the small rem model 7. And would be real nice in the new Ruger ranch rifle. Maybe even in the mossberg MVP that takes AR mags.

The 223 has been opened up for all bullet sizes thru 30 caliber, with and without the improved case of the TCU series. I have a 6.5TCU, and sold a 7TCU.

John Wooter published his 25/223 back in the 60's, IIRC. Called the 25 Copperhead, others called it Wooter's Tooter - IIRC.
And my silhouette gun was an XP-100 re-barreled to 30/223 - equal to the 30 Herret...

Echo - John Wooter's Copperhead is not a 223 based but a 222 based wildcat
