I garden in pots and have some tomato plants next to the foundation on the south side of the house. Outer leaves are looking pretty haggard from cold weather, but they are still trying. Just goes to show you how tough an " Old German " is. The yellow pear is still trying too !

do you cover 'em at night?

It has been a nice autumn, hasn't it.

No, they're just right up next to the foundation on the south side.

I had a tough old german as a teacher when I was a kid........ Would grab a teen by the neck and slide him up the wall with one hand.

Old Germans are pretty tough...no matter how carefully you cook them they are chewy and hard to swallow.

Most tender are the young of most any nationality...seasoning and avoiding overcooking is the key to a tender, flavorful meal.

An old Germans wife.

She has to put up with him.

Gotta go before the fight starts.

Tough Old German... well, my father, at 71 kinda fits that description. Got both knees replaced last year, and now he's talking about having me get his old Honda out of the barn so I can re-wire it (mice chewed up the harness 30+ years ago). He don't do wiring, doesn't have the patience, but he thinks he remembers how to ride the old gal.

But maybe a better example is his mother. She's 93, still drives, still gets out in her garden and plants, weeds, etc. All of 4'-11", and you respect her, because if you don't she just might put you over her knee and paddle your backside.

And my wife wonders why our kids are stubborn...

Some Roma varieties will still produce. If you put up pastes or sauces that is...
