I went through electronics in college a few years ago and I think I still have all or most of my books. Would these be any interest to anyone here?

I still have to find them and see what is there. What would they be worth?

I tried to sell 40 yrs of tech books at 1/2 P B. - no deal. Dumped them in the trash. Got a closet full of hi-tek computer stuff I will sell at the recycler.

I would be interested, but I have spent so much I am now poor. If you get to the dumpster stage, give me a yell and I will pay more than the freight.

Used electronics books in my area sell for $5-9 for amateur and up to $12 for texts and workbooks.

Taught electronics for a couple of years then a career with Raytheon. Had a wall full of books, hate to think what I had invested in them, but couldn't find much of a market for them, ended up giving them to the library before I retired, they probably tossed them... Shortly before I retired the facility I was at was being downsized, the technical library was closed and all of the books were tossed into the recycle bins, needless to say the scroungers hit it hard but still hundreds of technical resource books were dumped. Sorry to say but it would probably be easier to move used Harlequin romance novels....

OK.
I kept my college books, too!
I really regretted disposing of some of my BE&E, AV "A", and AFTA books. Those programmed instruction booklets would be a hoot to play with now!

I still do some design and repair but now just for myself, and after 27 years it is kind of routine. Only changes have been keeping up with the tube to solid state over the years. And learning new IC tech as it came out. Now if I need something microprocessor controlled I just grab one of the cheap single board computers and go from there. Why design a new foundation when I can grab something off the shelf and do a little easy programming!

I just fix stuff and I applied for a new job today.
My work is too much of a soap opera.

You should have worked with the crew I was stuck with at the casino, it was either girlfriends dumping them, the wife is mad, my video game character was killed last night... I wanted to scream get the he** out of the office and do some real work.

I could handle that work environment better than my own. At least they are unmotivated rather than causing trouble. I've reached the point where I am going to find a new boss.

Try working with 200 women and only 4 men. The men were the maintenance mechanics. You want drama, try having that job.

Every month they would start to pick on a new or old person to see if they would either get thom fired or to quit. The supers were also all women and they went right along with it. They all knew nothing about how machines work and that you had to do PM's to make sure that they would stay running. And when something did break and the machines were needed to be down for a day or two then the production supers wanted someones head. They just didn't get it.

Here the mechanics were expected to know how to do everything. There was no "electrician", "electronics guy", "millwright". I was the only one that would weld anything, build anything or work on anything electrical. The other guys might change a fuse or light bulb, or a switch, but that was it.

Then when I started to have major problems with my legs and back from diabetes, I started to miss a bunch of work as I could not sleep at night. Then I was moving a large platform that I told my boss that needed a set of wheels on it a felt something slip in my back. I reported it to the nighttime super. Well she never wrote it down and did not ever remember me telling her. Right after that, I became the new person that the women tried to get fired. This went on about a month. I reported over and over again that these women were harassing me. Nothing was ever wrote down or report up the chain. The nighttime super was really good friends and drinking buddy with most of the women on the night shift I was on.

Well I flipped out one night at one of the workers because you could tell she deliberately crashed one of the presses. I reported it to the "super" and I was a little irate about it. I also told her about how a bunch of the girls were harassing me about missing work all the time for my FMLA time. And I told her that if it didn't stop I was going to go get a lawyer. Well in the mean time, I was training a guy every night for 4 hours. He was staying every night over from day shift to see what I was doing so when he was "trained" he could come to nights with me to help me out as I was the only maintenance person on nights. Well for the next 3 weeks, I could not find my super to talk to him. I didn't think anything of it. Then on a Friday he comes over to me and sees how everything is going and tells me that the guy will be coming to nights on Monday. I told him fine and that I was a little busy at the moment and that I wanted to sit down and talk to him on Monday about some things that were going on. Well he said fine and he will see me on Monday.

Well monday came around and I get to work. As I walk through the front door, my boss meats me and tells me to come into the office. I thought well he wants to talk to me about what I told him. I walk into the room behind him and the plant manager and the human resource was also there. He starts to read out this BS that I was a hostile employee and that I have a bad attitude and on and on. Now I am getting real pissed. I asked about all the reporting of the harassment I was getting and about the issue with my back when I reported I twisted something in it. They had NO reports of anything for the last six months I was on nights! Well they fired me.

Well the next day I get a call from the human resource lady. She wanted me to come back and to talk to her. I came back and I brought my little notebook that I write EVERYTHING into. We went over everything that I wrote down for the last 5 years I worked there. She could not believe everything that had happened to me. See, she was brought in from the main headquarters about a year before. She was not a friend of a friend of a friend like everyone else that was there. She said she was going to look into everything and that I should look into getting a lawyer.

About a week later I get a call from her and she says that everything I wrote down about reporting stuff was nowhere in the system of reports. And she said the supers that I reported stuff to said they "don't remember" She said since nothing was ever wrote down or entered into a email or a report, that nothing was able to be done. Except the night I was irate about the employee crashing the press. It said I was threatening and that I threatened to sue the company for harassment and discrimination. It said the super felt like I threatened her. She said she was sorry and that she could no longer help me. Well I went and talked to a couple of lawyers and they told me the same thing. It was my word against theirs. They said it would be almost impossible to prove anything. Well I said screw it.

I then get a letter in the mail that my unemployment was being contested. Since I was fired for a bad attitude that automatically gets you denied. I get a phone interview with the unemployment people and my boss to try to plead my side. Well that did not go my way as I told them that I was irate with the super. So they sided with the employer.

I then went and talked to a community free lawyer group. They said they would help me as it was good training for the students there. They have regular lawyers that are right there with the students to make sure everything is done right. Well I told them everything that had happened and what the other lawyers had said and they just could not believe it. But they said that I would be able to win my unemployment very east if there was not any other reports of misconduct between the incident when I reported the crash and when they fired me. Because in Iowa, they have to fire you within a week of the incident. Since that was the reason that they fired me, if I did anything after that it would not be able to be held against me. Well there was nothing after that that was reported. They were waiting to make sure I told them the guy was ready to come to nights because I told them he was ready. I trained my replacement.

Anyway, I got my unemployment. We had an actual court hearing with a judge and she asked over and over to my boss and the new HR lady if there was any more incidents or reports of anything against me. There was nothing. Oh yah, the HR lady I talked to earlier had quite because of what she had found out about what was going on and that the management started to act like they were trying to set her up for something. I found out she already had another job when she quite.

I was friends with a few of the girls outside of work. They told me after I left, the new guy had everything screwed up and that production went down 57%. All of the people were getting in trouble because of the production loss. This went on for almost six months. They finally flew people into this plant from another one of the plants to work there and retrain the maintenance to get production back inline. That took another three months. They fired my boss and a few other of the production supers. I loved hearing this as it was going on. I guess some figured out the PM's I was doing at night when stuff was down was keeping day shift going at 100%. What they didn't take into account was I did not show the NEW guy everything that I was doing or knew. Sometimes it is good to NOT show the people what you do or know.

The few friends that I had there, said it it way better now. The harassment of people to try to get them fired is not tolerated at all. If there is any they are fired right there. They have a NO TOLERANCE rule now. They all want me back. But with how I feel with my back and legs, NO WAY! And how I was treated and the main Corporate office going along with it. No way!!!!!!!

Sorry about the LONGGGGGGGGGG rant but this still pisses me off when I think about it.

'complex variables & Laplace for eng', 'controlling radiated emissions by design', DFT/FFT convolution algor.', 'Elec. & Mag. fields by atwood' - really old but best I've seen. Mathcad, Matlab, Protel layout, MS C,VC++, all kinds of Linux disks. 20# of DSP/xilinx/freescale, etc dev boards. Come & get it, I'm done. I sold all my school books to pay for the next semester's stuff. I remember TI's IEE/IEEE collection of papers in the lib, Rice got some, Johnnson (now UTD) lib got some. Nobody wants paper anymore.
Dang - found a box with bags of new 30/30 & 308 brass + a case of CCI primers stashed in the corner. Haven't even gotten to the attic yet. Wonder what I left there?
