Killed this buck earlier this week with a .50 roundball I had poured and backed with 80gr of FFg. About a 30 yard shot and watched him fall after he went less than 50 yards. Quartering away shot and you can see the entry. The ball broke the off side shoulder and kept on trucking. Not my first with a cast roundball but it is the first i could share with you folks. In a few weeks I can start using the NOE 311165 in my 30.06 and when I get one with that , that will be a first for me!

N.Y. used to have a black powder season. Patch round ball only (now anything goes), it was great with a 50 cal, 495 ball, patch, 80 grains black in my TC Hawken. Thru and thru at 70 yds.

Congrats to you on that fine deer.!

backstrap steaks smothered in cream gravy, taters, lima beans, and homeade biscuits.

It is amazing what a guy can see in a picture, in fact I can almost taste it. lol

Nice buck, rifle and boat. Using the boat for better access? We have done that many times.

I hunt with several muzzle loaders too.

A big thumbs up!

After years of trying maxi-balls, maxi-hunters etc, I prefer a round ball in .50 to .54 cal for deer, pushed to good velocity with black powder. Out to about 100 hundred yards, the roundball gets the job done with plenty to spare, (in the proper slow rifling twist) Plenty of damage, and usually complete pass-through penetration.

I used to boat across the sloughs in south Arkansas where 4 wheelers weren't allowed and hunt with a .45 Hawken. Great times and no one wanted to walk all the way around the sloughs so not much competition. That is a beautiful young deer and should be great eating. With all the acorns produced this year he should be in great shape. Congrats!

Very nice, I too love my cva and T/C hawken 50s , I cast rounds for mine back in 2001 and killed a nice 4x4 elk in Buena Vista Colorado on 9-11 , at a little after daybreak , 70 yd broadside shot, ball stopped on the offside in the skin, I was very happy until my partner came back across the ridge with the pack gear at about 9:30 and told me he had heard on the radio the world trade centers were on the ground, happy and sad at the same time , I will never forget that day.

Nice Buck, nice rifle, and FINE SHOOSHTING. I love shooting Round Ball out of my side lock front stuffers. IMHO I think ONLY round ball and classic sidelock muzzleloaders and NO optics should be allowed during ML season. A modern inline IS NOT much of a challenge other than only having one shot. Which thats all you have most times with any other rifle.

Nice one , Pac!

Yep, RB has plenty of what it takes. I like your brand of hunt.
