One of my goals this year, if the opportunity presents itself, is to harvest a IL whitetail with my 41Mag BH. Its a 4 5/8" barrel with Bushnell reddot on top. Currently my comfortable range is 30yds freehand. I'm still working on load development using Alliant 2400. Currently I'm at 17.5grs and believe thats as far as I want to go. I compare this to shooting Rem. Buckhammers out of my 870. The load lets you know it means buisness.

From the Lyman manual I believe I'm over 1000fps; no chrony available.

Not sure how fast I need to push this boolit to ensure it does the job?

1000fps with a cast is plenty.

I've used a Keith style 230 gr. slug from an old Saeco mould for 45 years & its taken deer, elk & bear using 17 grs of 2400. I've always had complete penetration with it. Never tried it in a hollow point.
