I went to Bass today looking for powder. I should have known better. Are there any IMR powders that could be used for .45 and 44M? Thanks

Can't find Win296/H110 so I bought a pound of IMR4227 to try in 44 magnum. From what I have read so far, the load needs to be on the higher end so that it burns all the powder.

imr of course has counterparts to the other makers.
PB is an overlooked powder about half way between red-dot and unique [close to green-dot] and has many uses.
it's more expensive though.
700-x is super comparable to red-dot and i generally seem to have a couple of pounds of it around to use in a couple of different cases.

they have several others that do the job also but those two are off the top of my head.

oldgeezer, Just go to the website and you'll find some data for IMR powders.

I've become fond of 4227

4227 works well in the 44 Mag; an old Keith loading was 17 grains of 4227 with a 250 grain bullet was for the 44 Special, but I used it in the Mag. The recoil was moderate. If you want to go to performance level you can go (according to the old Dupont tables) as high as 23 grains of 4227 (some compression) and that was decidedly more than moderate. LLS

Pistol and shotgun powders have been very scarse for a year up here.

IMR rifle powder was some of the first to show up. 4350, then 4895, and other slower powders.
I am hoping than in the near future this particular episode will be over.

I am waiting to reload for the 7.62x25 (Cz-52), 9mm (Buddy's Berreta) 38 spcl/357 (Handy rifle soon going back to factory to have barrels fitted) and .45acp (Springfield Armory 1911 mid 90's model)

IMR 4227 would work for a couple of those, but would not work well at all for others. So I am waiting, impatiently.

I used IMR7625 for my first cast loads with 45ACP mostly because I've always used IMR powder and it was all I could find to buy. I made a thread about it with pics if you want to look. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?249837-Success-%29
