Has anyone successfully set off BH 209 with a small starter charge of other powder in a cap and ball pistol using standard percussion caps? I'm wondering if 5 grns of my 3F Triple 7 could set off the other 25-35 grns of BH 209 in a pistol.
I've been contemplating spending a little money on the expensive BH 209 to give it a try but cannot get the required 209 primers for a cap n ball pistol as there's just no room for a conversion. I do have some very neat primer capsules for my ROA that use large pistol/rifle primers, but I understand even that's not quite enough to set off BH 209.
Has anyone done this with a percussion rifle?
