my wife called me in to do something. forgot about my alloy. went back about 30mins later. OUT OF GAS. it was not out long just started to harden. I could get the ladle out. (I remember reading that thread).
it is flux and skimmed.

so should just flip the pan over and make it one big ingot or hook up my other gas canster and melt it?

Melt it.

I have on occasion left the thermometer in the pot. Heat it up and start where you left off.

went to get the other tank.

It was out. I was not casting anything just making ignots. so I just dropped out of the pan.

I am going to get more gas later.

a 30lbs ingot :veryconfu

Was there any problems with your thermometer? I almost did this once but caught it in time while things were still slushy.

I'd use that 30lb'er next time you do a smelting session. It'll melt pretty fast and give you a good couple of inches (after pouring some ingots) to float the clips on. I find it's alot faster for me to skim clips if I've got an inch or two in the pot to start. (FWIW)

I thought about that.

it is bigger then the 4qt pot, which is the one I am going to use for casting boolits

I use a 5qt for melting wheel wights.
