I have often posted in fluxing threads regarding saw dust and other carbohydrate fluxing agents that grain products like grits, corn meal, cream of wheat etc could be used to flux. My personal choice is chicken scratch feed. It is just a mixture of grains. I was smelting this weekend the pot got a little hot 800°. I threw in some chicken feed. It smoked and then the corn began to pop. The tinsel fairy did not come but I am sure I heard her giggling in the background.

I'm not going to ask why you were fluxing with chicken feed, just going to assume that is what was handy.
The corn popping , that made me smile....I can just picture that. Thanks

ALL RIGHT!

Some butter, a bit of Parmesan cheese, and some garlic powder and you got an excellent seasoned batch of tinsel-colored popcorn there!

Or can anybody go for a big batch of "kettle corn"? YUM!

I'll stick with sawdust and beeswax.

Sawing on stuff is to hard it is like work so don't have any saw dust. I am thinking since I already use sugar for fluxing isn't kettle corn just corn, sugar, butter and maybe a little salt?

Sawdust is free & plentiful, if not at home, at your local HD/Lowes. Just don't get any MDF, nasty stuff.

They cut EVERTHING with the same saw (mine all do), so you cannot discern the difference.....so avoid the "free on-the-cheep" sawdust from any big box stores.

Make you own with a drill/sander/saw/plane. Grab a hunk of pine 2x4 and have at it. It does not take a lot of it. The finer the better, but pine is pine.

Or visit WalMArt pet department as everybody says.

Banger, I live in Arkansas. Here Walmarts are as thick as ticks in Texas. I'll probably stick to grains and my wooden sticks.
