I have a man who said he will trade me a five gallon bucket of boolits from a range that only allows cast to be shot for 500 30 cal. GC boolits, which is about 15# of lead + $15 worth of GC. I have 2 five gallon buckets of boolits scrap from the club berm that weighs in excess of 400# so I cast him 15# of boolits for 400# of lead and he said he could get that much every other month, What do you think?
I will have to smelt them down and 30% is 22 lead and the rest will be from 9mm up to 45 as 45ACP is the largest round allowed at that range.

Sounds like you can get yourself some cheap lead, and at the going price on Ebay you could make a tidy sum after you have enough for your needs. If you have the time to invest. Dale

I can not see any down side to what you have stated. Even if you had to purchase a mold, it still looks like a good deal to me.

I can't see anything bad out of it. I have smelted range lead before. Itis a little more work than just WWs depenging on how much rocks and dirt is in it. At the very worst case you are out some extra effort and in that case you don't do it again, but I don't see it being that bad since you have to go to a certain amount of work anyway.

There will not be any rocks in the scrap he will have as it is from a trap in an indoor range pistol only

That's even better!

I "mine" the backstop at our indoor range (we have 1100 members and 24/7 access so the range gets LOTS of use) and use the resulting lead almost exclusively unless I glom onto some w/w. Instead of skimiing w/w clips I skim out jackets and gas checks. The leftover copper is welcome at the local scrap yard. I figure what could be better to cast bullets out of then....bullets?
