Well, after a 2-week, unproductive, 85 degree mosquito infested bow season....muzzleloader opened today. Yeah....it was still 80 degrees when I went to the woods this evening, still gnats, still mosquitos, still sweaty and uncomfortable. BUT.....as my well-trained neighborhood deer do, they walked onto the power line right on schedule....20 minutes before dark. In the freezer goes a very nice 100lb. doe.

Cloth patched, spit lubed .495 rd ball, broadside double-lunger at 70 yds with the old-school powder dumping, ball stuffing, iron sited, smoke-spitting real muzzle-loading son of a gun.

Today....a good day. :)

I could kill 1,000 deer with a modern scoped rifle.....and it wouldn't compare to one with the old front stuffer. Yeah...I shoot a cap lock, but not by choice. It just happens to be what I inherited from my old scoutmaster many, many moons ago. I WILL build a flintlock...one of these days!!

You couldn't smack the smile off my face right now!! :)

Very nice.

That's what they meant when they created the blackpowder hunt.

Great job! Hopefully after the first frost the bugs will go away!

Bugs and walnuts. Been picking up nuts for weeks and one tree is still full. GNATS up the ying-yang too. Can't cut or vacuum leaves with all the nuts.
Nothing worse then gnats and skeeters when on stand.
I love a RB gun and used a flinter most. friends bring those inlines and I grew to hate them. Friend shot one sabot load and had to run the ramrod into a tree to load the second one. I out shoot him to 200 meters with a RB. Open sights to his scope.
They will never improve on a good RB gun.
