View Full Version : Gas check shank too big?

So, in a recent group buy I ended up with a 311466 that had a gas check shank that was too large to seat 30 cal checks. The problem was taken care of and was told to keep the original mold. One way to make use of it is to use 8mm checks but that costs money and I am cheap. I have come up with a way to get the shank the correct diameter with what I have on hand, and it is quick and easy.

The shank is a little over .290" and needs to be closer to .285". After seeing what I had on hand and doing a little math I reached for my Lee factory crimp die for my 25-06.

A quick squeeze and checks now fit nice and snug and crimp on solidly.

Problem solved.

I actually do that to crimp a loose check on one boolit.
