bar solder? I ran across an ad on another forum for 50/50 bar solder at $5 a pound, plus shipping (from CA). Too much, or about average? I desperatelyneed some tin to sweeten wheel weight alloy for rifle boolits, but I don't want to get hosed. Funds are kinda low at the moment and I want to get the most value for my money.

Thats a little steep with shipping but from what I have seen not real bad. You can pprooly go to your local chain store if you have one and get 95/5 for less than $15lb and have it done.

I have a question along those lines. If I am trying to approximate Lyman #2 can I use the 95/5 (which I assume is 95 tin 5 Pb) in place of 50/50 and just use 1/2 pound to 9 1/2 lbs lead instead of 9 :1?

762, The 5% is usually Sb antimony as this is lead free solder.

Check out Swappin and Sellin i have Babbit for sale limit 5 lbs per. trying to spread the wealth out a little (not distribute wealth)
Babbit= Lead 3.8% These are aprox. This chunk of babbit was shot with an anilizer
Tin over 80%
Ant 8.6%

Don't overlook your local scrap yard. Mine sells bar solder scrap for $1/lb and lead free tin sticks for about $2.50/lb.

Thanks for the tips, guys. I'll have to call around and see what the local scrap dealers have. What's the melting point of pure tin?
