Whats a good mould for a 32-20?

Hi guys,
will soon be getting an 1892 in 32-20. What bullet mould designs are likely to prove the most accurate?

I always had good success with the Lyman 311008 and 311316GC. Sold them both however and bought one of Al's NOE 314008 5 cavity moulds. 2xPB, 2xGC, 1xGCHP.

The two that Jeff named are probly the most popular, and are very good. I hear that the RCBS 95 gr SWC is a good one too. I like the NOE 120 rngchp pretty good. I tend to heavy for caliber boolits, so I haven't looked at lighter boolits much.

The already mentioned molds all work well. I have also had good results with the RCBS 310-120 heeled mold made for the .310 cadet.

The answers you have gotten are very good... I personally would have stopped with the Ideal/Lyman 3118/311008 for moderate velocities, but then would have added the gas checked 311316 if I really wanted to push hard in a rifle-only load as you seem to be suggesting.

I have the NOE as a 5 cavity plain base and love it, especially for my 327 Fed Mag, but it drops bullets that are 10 or more grains heavier than the 3118 it was patterned after, so this may be a consideration, pro or con, in your 32-20 rifle.

I haven't tried my plain based Mihec 314640 hollow point in 32-20 yet, but I'm guessing it will also be a good choice. I have the lighter one at about 100 gr, but he also made it about 10-15 grains heavier, which might be a better choice for your rifle.

BTW, will you be hunting with that rifle or just target shooting?

I also have a stash of 31133 bullets. They are the HP version of the 311008. With a LDPE wad under them to protect the base I push them a full speed for devastating results on hares.

Well,yah, when it was brought out that is exactly what the cartridge was! Thus the boolit design that goes back to the original load. The 311008 is a copy of the original Winchester boolit.

I've used the 90 grain RCBS bullet with some success in a Colt revolver and a Marlin lever action. While it shot very well with a few loads, I prefer the Lyman 115 grain GC bullet as it required less load development to come up with accurate loads, and more of them.

I have a H&G number sixty-seven that has worked well for many years . Second choice for me is the RCBS semi-wadcutter bullet mad in thirty-two caliber . Mine drops at a touch over .314" and is perfect for my lever rifle , feeds fine and is very accurate .
