Anyone shoot these ? Pick one of these up off Lee's surplus page , cast very well for a new mould to say the least , won't be doing much too it to help it out as it drops well and it filled out good after it got to temp .

Thats alot of lead in them things , and I thought the 405 gn'er was alot . :)

Any suggestions for a good powder for something around 1400fps or so as I think it is going to thump on both ends out of my Marlin GG . :)

Thanks guys and gals .

Icer, check the diameter of some of those slugs. Hopefully they're .459" or larger, but likely they are smaller.

35r . they just wipe the sides in spots in my .458 sizer , could lap it out a touch but the GC shank is about right , suppose I could try just the bands a little , just a little more work not to get the GC shank .

Rico , will try to get a pic for you soon .

Thanks, Keith!

That looks like one that would actually function through a Marlin 1895 if seated to the front of the top band and crimped. Doesn't need the gas check for that, though.

Loaded a dummy round and I had to crimp it with about .030 of the front band showing to get it to cycle in my GG . As soon as the weather starts to get better I'll try it out , should thump bambie real good . :)

I was thinking of pushing it around 1400 to 1600 fps for hunting in the brush .

Good luck. As cast, they usually need to be larger in diameter.

Keep your fingers crossed and hope your rifle doesn't need a larger diameter bullet like most of the Marlins prefer.

I had to get Lee to "select" some moulds that cast to a larger diameter ($25) to get the size I needed. My Marlin .45-70 hated the as cast Lee's, which were the same diameter as yours. Most of the bullets keyholed.

Hope they do good , useing the same sizer as for my other boolits that shoot good in the 45-70 , I have the Lee 405gn FN and the Lyman HP mould , plus one of the GB light weight's for plinking . If not I'll have to do a little work on it is all . :)
