I just got done using my new style Lee 312-185 mold and I love this mold! My first introduction to this bullet was some years ago when I ordered a new two cavity mold of this size for my .303 British. I was disappointed with what showed up because it was a single cavity but I thought I would try it out anyway. As many of you know this mold is usually too small for many .303's and mine was also. After hearing of success using this mold with bullets sized .311 in the .30-06 I tried it out in my 03-A3 and have not found any other bullet that shoots any better than this one. I have settled on the Harris load of 16 gr. of 2400.

After using the single cavity mold for quit a few years I grew tired of the slow rate of casting and ordered one of the new style two cavity molds. This new mold is a great improvement over the old one and really like the way this the alignment pins are set up for a more positive alignment.

I don't know how many bullets the old mold has cast but I guess it will be placed in to retirement.

I also got this one for my .303 British, but it works better than anything else I have in a 30-40 Krag. I size them at .310" for the Krag.

What nose diameter does your new mold drop? And with what alloy? Curious minds want to know.:-?
Thanks,

I have one, my Yugo SKS simply adores those bullets sized .312.

My Mosin's refuse to shoot the .312's accurately so I added a few tape strips in strategic locations and I'm getting .314's out of it now.

My nose is showing .303 from the end of the radius to just in front of the crimp mark.
Mine are just range lead,(aprox 9-10) with just a little solder to help it fill.

Hope that helps.

Love that mould. I lapped one hole out so it drops 315+ for my Mosin and left one as is for other 30cals. Getting my 20 bucks worth for sure. Wish all my moulds worked as good for me as the 185 Lee. GP

I bought that mold a couple of years ago hoping to get a larger nose than my 30-180 for a few 30-06's but no luck. I don't remember what diameter the bands drop but do remember it was large enough to size at .310". The nose on my bullets drop at about .299", so no improvement from my 30-180. I would buy another if I thought the noses would drop @ .301" to .303", .301" to .302" being ideal.

The nose on my bullets measure between .301 and .302. These bullets are cast of wheel weights and a little solder sweeten it. Hope you find the mold you want.

I have a single cavity Lee 309-190GC that was the second mould I ever bought. It is very accurate in my .30-06, .308 to the point where I am about to abandon other moulds for these guns. It is only one cavity, but after about 3 fills virtually every boolit dropped afterwards is perfect!

I can't say the same about any of my other rifle moulds, they all produce plenty of rejects.
