I apologize if this information is covered. Using a half jacket in special mold has been an interest for sometime. This would allow lube/resize and shooting in autos without messing gas vent.
thanks for feedback.

Not sure about a half jacket, but a great many of us use gas checked boolits sized and lubed in autos with no problems.

Has checks would probably be a better fit for your needs from a home production standpoint. However, if you are interested in hot poured jacketed bullets you will probably have to swage them afterwards. Swaging is a very expensive endeavor.

I played around with tinning 28guage copper wire, wrapping a mandrel, and putting it in a mold after tinning. I then poured a casting. I ran this through my sizing die. It worked ok, but, paper patching was far simpler.

It'd be almost impossible to get good results. And recovery of imperfections in jacket and lead
(as weighed, I guess)would be a pain. Has Lose/Lose written all over it.

I highly recommend you check out the alternative coatings subforum. Read the stickies first.

yes use gas checked, but with my grandson receiving a garand from his uncle, i was interested in something other than commercial fmj. in my simplified mind, inserting copper "semi-jacket" into mold and hot pour. of course size.
thank you, blackangus

Half jackets are the cheapest type of swaging available, using old Herter's or CH dies/presses. I use cut down 40S&W cases as half jackets. Got that idea from BTSniper.

Ebay has half jacket swage dies. You need a core mold, and half jackets. In the case for .30cal, .40 cases. They pop up from time to time.

A large number of us simply use gas checked cast in gas guns. From M1 Garands to AR-15's and AR-10's. My son has a gas operated Remington 742 in 30-06 we shoot standard gas checked cast. No fouling issues at all when sized properly.
