I have some bullets cast from an old lyman 429244 mold. This bullet calls for a gas check. My question is would it hurt to load and fire them without the gas check. They would be sized and lubed of course.
thanks for any answers.

They will work fine without the gas check.

But - you will lose some accuracy.

At 25 yards, with .44 Special range loads, you should group in around 2" at 25 yards WITH gas check and around 3" without gas check.

This is a very common question that is discussed at length here: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?48857-Gas-Check-Boolits-without-Gas-checks

Sizing and lubing them in a traditional sizer may be a problem, as you'll get a mess of lube on the bottom where the check should be.

I have that mold and like it a lot. I finally bought a couple boxes of gas checks and they work great in my Marlin .44 mag.

Hurt? Nope. Optimum accuracy? Mebbe not.http://castboolits.gunloads.com/google.php?cx=partner-pub-6216953551359885%3A1942134700&cof=FORID%3A9&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=cas+check+bullets+without+gas+checks&sa.x=12&sa.y=11&siteurl=castboolits.gunloads.com%2Findex.php&ref=&ss=15267j9923947j36

I have a 424244 mold but I've only used checks with this bullet. Normally if I want a plain base bullet I'll cast up some 429421s...
