Hi all,

I started my internet gun odessy here years ago when it was shooters.com.

Well I have aquired 3 Model B Mauser Sporters in 10.75x68. ( 404 Jeffrey short ). As these were made in 1921 -22 I am trying to get a cast bullet load together for the roughest one. It was for sure a working PH rifle. The out side is worn all to hell but the bore and innards are perfect.

My mould came from NEI today, the bore diameter is .423, where can I get gas checks for this bullet ?

Thanks in advance........................JJ

JJ, Lyman or Hornady .44 cal. .429 gas checks might be able to size down enough. If not, Hornady makes .416 gas checks, which would be easy enough to expand with the right size dowel pin or a home made steel rod.

Knowing how Walt managed things I would guess that the cherry was cut for an existing GC probably one or the other of 44 or 416. More than likely the 44. I would ask at NEI first.

.............JJ_Miller, a hearty welcome to the board. This is way better then Shooters.com was. You don't get ignored by the powers that be here, vs there :-)

What does the GC shank mike on your new NEI booits? That'll tell ya which is what. Using the 44's would make sense to me though, regardless. Mo'betta to size down a 44 then to try and make a 416 something it isn't!

Lyman used to make .425" gas checks. A couple years ago I got a box of these off eBay (they were advertised by the seller as .44. The Box was VERY old). I sold them to another member here who said he was going to use them for a .404 Jeffery.
