Just shot an old 310 Cadet "Super Cartridge" load into a bucket of Wally World kitty litter. The recovered boolit has a hollow base filled with a waxy substance. (No Gertrude, it was unused kitty litter.) The rifling was perfectly scribed all the way to the bottom of the heel-based (and hollow based) boolit.

I haven't had much practice with the Lee 459 405 gr HB yet, but I'm aware that it's not held in much favor by some of the experienced shooters here. Could it be that the base needs to be filled with paraffin or something?

Didn't Greener put in a wood plug to get positive base expansion? Some of you must have messed with this in the past, but I can't seem to find much on the "Search" function.

No, nothing but air. If you shoot black powder, just put a wad behind the HB because it was designed as a BP bullet

The 405 was designed for Springfield rifles which had bore diameters that were not uniform. The HB bumped up to compensate for the irregular bores
